Barn Door for JK factory hardtops

Actually I wouldn't even keep silverware down there for me I would keep spices and other smaller food items in there along with maybe plates etc. I really like this a lot.

I wouldn't keep silverware there either, it'll probably rattle like crazy. I grabbed a silverware tray out of the kitchen just to show something in the drawer :).

Oh man that looks great Jeff. How about cleaning meaning if I use it to prep food. Meat veggies etc and go to clean it will it affect the silverware underneath. I mean you could easily remove the silverware ahead of time but just a thought. I use the cutting board on my tailgator to cut onion green peppers and tomatoes when prepping fajitas so that was first thing that came to mind was the cleaning of it and will water for instance runoff into the silverware drawer. Looks tight with no openings but that did come to mind for cleaning. Outside of that I love this tackles a few things all at once.

I've got a design for sealing the drawer under the tabletop but I didn't implement it for this prototype. As it is, I'd use a wet rag to wash the tabletop, I wouldn't spray it with a hose :).

More to come, I bought three of the $8 folding tables at Walmart last week and I've only used the wood from 1 1/3 of them so far...

Oh man that looks great. Another thing that it opens up is not needing the tailgator anymore so then one could implement your tailgate box for more storage. With the pouch I have on the front of the fridge and having the ability to utilize storage under and then storage with the tail gate this opens up things in my opinion for camping and such. This actually exceeded what I had envisioned in my head. Excellent job so far Jeff!

Thanks Donny!

I've got the design worked out for the fold-down side table, I just have to find time in the next 3 weeks to fabricate a couple of custom parts so it will stow the way I want. I say 3 weeks because I leave for Mom's in 3 weeks and I need to have it working before we get together at Ford's :).

Something else got added to my to-do list for this week - a few weeks ago I got the first set of pre-production mounting brackets for the MultiPod LED system. A few minor adjustments were needed to some of the parts, and I just received another set with all the changes made. Assuming these fit as intended, they're ready for production. I'll have to install them all over the next few days to verify them.

Last week I posted this illustration of the cardboard mockup fenders showing some possible ways the back leading edges of the rear flat fenders might be trimmed after they come out of the mold.

I've been working on the mold masters for the fenders for the past few days, during that process yet another trimming option occurred to me, here's a concept drawing. Basically the leading edge of the back of the fender would be trimmed in a straight line, but parallel to the back of the fender, resulting in a wider section in the back. Since the options abover are A-F, I'll call this one option "G":

All of the trimming options above will be possible with the molds that will be made from these masters.

The mold masters should be in shape to take some photos to post later today.

Would be a huge amount of work for just the coolness factor of being different.
Wait... Isn't that what hobbies are all about. :victory: roflol

On a more serious note. Could the rear of the fender be brought forward, so the lip could be the same dimension all the way around? This would match the front fender better too.

If the rear of the fender were any further forward, it wouldn't hide the mounting recess for the factory fender. As it is, the rear of the flat fender is just as far back as it needs to be to cover that recess, but no further.

The mounting recess that needs to be hidden:

I guess since nobody else has chimed in..
The only reason I've not said anything, is because I think you've lost your mind on this flat fender kick.. Your talents are far to great to trying to push or build something thats already been done.. Let's get crazy and create something totally off the wall.. like a rear bar/tube tail gate door..

If there are flat fenders on the market that match the styling of the original Willys fenders as closely as mine do, please point me to them. I'm not aware that these have been done before.

What if you did a negative radius on the rear of the fender?

Edit to add:
If you used a negative radius across the entire fender, you could make a round version, that would look more like the original.
