Bedford?

There were a fair number of those trucks either unconverted or not converted in an especially sophiticated manner in southern africa in the early '90s.

None of the ones I rode in were good for more than 80 kph, and usually that was only going downhill.

Gotta say, the end result of their build looks much better than i would have expected from a converted shipping container:

Wonder how much it weighs, though?

Bedfords aren't the greatest trucks out there. We had them in the early days in the army and they sucked. Badly.
Use a Bedford if you're overlanding on a shoestring budget

Sheet that container must be heavy hey.

From what I can gather from reading about them on the 'net, power steering was not standard.

It looks like the Bedford pictured has an aftermarket power steering system added.

My dad used a bedford parked in the drieway when I was a kid. I remember it being very noisey and very slow. It was a strong truck but it had some 'interesting' engineering and broke in weird ways that only a british vehicle could do :)
