We'll have to get together Jim. I'm really close to Murphy and Campbell.

Did a mock up of the console tonight. Not sure if I like it or not, but that's what the mock up its for right.

Nice Suburban and good job working up your console ideas. I bought a used police center console (Troy or Gamber Johnson, can't remember....) for my radio install, I appreciate the work you are doing to make your own. As for the custom switches you are looking for have you tried these folks yet? http://www.otrattw.net

Tires and brakes.

If you haven't bought the tyres yet, I'd recommend the coopers if you can find them in your size. I had the BFGs prior to these, but the coopers came in at less than 50% of the price, I use them in 4wd at least once a week, have run into a couple of sharp kerbs here in Mexico, and have over 25,000 highway miles on them. They're still quiet and I haven't had to have them balanced yet. I'd recommend them to anyone with a suburban.

Congratulations on getting a truck with the rear brakes converted, I thought my guy was taking the piss the second time he told me I needed new rear shoes...again!

Looking forward to following your progress.

I am really bad on waiting on advice I ask for. I'm very impatient. I already ordered my tires and wheels from 4wheelparts. They had a special on Pro Comps and I had a email discount code. They came in at about $165 each. They are supposed to be at my door Wednesday, mounted, balanced ready to bolt on.

I also ordered a carpet kit from LMC. It was about $80 more than some other places, but I've ordered from LMC before and the stuff I've received was OEM quality so I have some trust in them. Already started removing seats and necessary interior trim for when it arrives.

BTW- If anybody is going to shop at a 4wheelparts store, Don't. The actual brick and mortar store store quoted me almost $400 more than their website for the exact same items and they had a 2 week install backlog. Shipping was also free from the website.

Looking back on the start of this thread I said this would be a slow build and it will slow down allot in a couple of weeks. After I bought the Suburban I decided to sell My 1979 f350 dually project. I got $2500 for it and I have to spend the cash before my wife gets a hold of it. So far I don't even think she realizes the dually is gone yet. We supposedly have an agreement that once money becomes hobby money it stays hobby money, but it doesn't always work like that.

I have a similar agreement. She honors it most of the time, as long as the funds are redirected b4 she is aware.

Received my wheels and tires this morning. Thanks to my Ryobi cordless impact driver I had them on in less than 30 min. Went for a test drive and I love these tires and they look good. Super quiet compared to the Longhorns and i love the black wheels, looks a little meaner. Note to self.... re-torque lug nuts tonight.

Nice improvement with the black wheels. The `burb´looks like a nice ride and very clean. Lets see some pics of your fine rig in the bush. Cheers, Chilli...:Wow1:

I have to find some bush first. In Texas open land is limited unless you pay to wheel on it. Plus I have only owned it for 4 weeks. I do have a trip planed soon to Oklahoma to help my uncle get ready for deer season. He has 80 acres so I'll try then.

I am really jealous of all the folks on here that live in more remote mountainous, scenic areas of our country.
I was once in the Amarillo airport looking out the window next to an old man. I made a comment on how flat Texas is, his response was "yep you can see 50 miles in any direction, stand on a tuna can and you can see a hundred".

Well I took the Suburban on a 400 mile road trip last weekend to a VW Bus show/camp out. I normally take my bus, but the bus has a bad tranny. Nothing very off road just a camp ground type environment and some mud after a major rain storm. The trip was uneventful until the day after I got back. I went to the store the next morning and steam started pouring out from under the hood. It took me a few minutes to find where it was coming from. Having just changed the radiator and hoses a couple of weeks before I thought maybe something came lose. None of the new stuff was leaking and it looks like it's coming from the heater bypass valve area. I read that the bypass valve and Y connector are an issue so I ordered both and a new coolant recover tank (it had a crack at the cap area). They are supposed to be here today and I'm going to also change all the heater hoses at the same time.

Anybody else have issues with the heater system? Anything to look out for?

Great looking truck, looks like you found a real gem. Hard to believe there's 150k on that cush leather interior. :D Keep up the good work.
