Big THANK YOU to the Hollister Overland team!

Glad there is a happy-ish ending for you, Justin. When we saw you guys heading down the trail it looked bad.

I like the idea of the SuperChaser! I'm sure you'll build it back better than ever!

for not leaving the hack saw behind when I left. Feel like an idiot for volunteering it and then not following thru.

Glad to see you got it back on the road and rolling.

John, not a problem at all. I like the Mad Max look. I actually started to have my 5 year old cut it off but thought twice and decided to leave it on for the trip out to AT.

Hey all... It was nice to meet everyone even though we were only able to make it in for Saturday night and Sunday. The talks were great and the rest of the event looked like a ton of fun also... here's hoping next year won't line up perfectly with a major software release at work

Back home safe and sound. I have looked over the Chaser and YES there is damage, but I am quite impressed with how well it took the roll. There was no damage to any of the contents inside the trailer. With a little more fore thought I could have fixed everything on the trail. I will now be carrying a piece of 5/8" All Thread. The Chaser Rocks and I am looking forward to building it back - bigger and better!!

Glad you and the trailer made it back home safe and sound... it really took the roll well -- those things are built tough. Well, except for the trailing arm pivot that is :sombrero:

I actually had a hack saw, but I thought the rod looked kind of cool hanging out like that so I didn't even think to offer it... also going into my rig are some welding rods and a clamp. I usually travel with a buddy who has a Ready Welder, and I even thought about throwing some rod in before this trip but didn't get around to it. Oh well, lesson learned. At least I had all the Trophy checklist items... good times!

I'm normally glued to my camera but elected to focus more on the course material than the photography this trip. Here are the few photo's I did elect to take.

Ramdom Shots @ Camp & on the Trail

It's my family's first time attending this Rally; had a great time; good talking to other overlanders, meeting new people, ideas and inspiration. Enjoyed the presentation and collection of pictures and talking points from Christian and Persephone from their 2005 to current trips around the world. And Scott Brady's adventure rally/trip to Mongollia. My wife and I are inspired, and will be taking our young boys on their first international trip next year.

Till the next rally....

Here are ramdom shots:

Tickets for the event, and welcome packet w/2 copies (Summer 2007 and 2010) of Overland Journal. Very nice!

Hollister is a wheeling paradise... anybody hit the tire pile, log pile, of giant rock garden at the obstacle course?

Great repair on the trailer. Just a little advice; most all thread at the hardware store is grade 2. If it's easy to cut with a hacksaw, I'd suggest that you change it out for regular bolts (if you can get them in) or a piece of B7 threaded rod.
Great pictures.

Justin,

Sorry to hear about your roll over on the trailer. Glad you where in good ExPo company!

Question.....How did the Eezi-Awn make out?

I have been thinking of building a rack above my Eezi-Awn that is removable but also provides roll over insurance.

All the best!

:)

Here is a shot that I took with the cover off. One hinge is bent and ripped free from the wood. Two of the lower aluminum slates that are used to attach the tent to the roof rack are also bent. I believe I can rebuild using a new piece of wood. Should be a fun project.

A roll cage for the Eezi Awn is a idea. Believe it or not I was going slow enough that there is no road rash on the tent cover.

No one knows when you are going to have a mechanical failure. Things break, you fix them and continue down the road. This is what makes it an adventure.

Justin-

That safari fabric on the mattress is pretty swank. Now I understand why folks are always asking for tours of your trailer.
