are these things any good? checke one out at ace today and couldn't really decide. it didnt have a spout with it, just a cap with a rubber gasket. seemed to be made well enough. just wonderd if any body had any experience with them. price was $40. dont know how much a spout would cost. thanks

I have had quite a bit of experience with them. I owned an old CJ7 that had a none functional Gas Gauge. Had to go on Drive Time to determine when to fill up. This did not work out too well.

So as you can imagine I had quite a few chances to use the Blitz that I had in a confer mount on my spare tire.

Well, all I can say is they leak. Not a lot, but mostly just smell and have runs of liquid down the side that gather tons of dirt.

To get the lid on tight enough so that it does not leak too bad you have to use a lever arm, like a screwdriver. This also means that the lever arm is needed to remove the lid.

If you can find them there are rubber bung style nozzles that you insert into the opening and flip a lever that expands the rubber seal. Just like a boat plug. These are by far the best nozzles. The screw in nozzles have the same problems as the lid, but have no place to use a lever arm.

I have 2 blitz cans. They both leak when pressurized and when trying to pour from the screw in style spouts. I'm a recent convert to the NATO style can so the Blitz are now pulling second duty the the lawn & garden implements. Save your coin for a different can.

just a thought. with athe new laws on the gas cans thought that they might be a good alternative but as i suspected, they would not do the job. thanks for clearing this up.

The Scepters are no longer available in the US. The NATOs will not be purchasable as of Jan 17. Get them while you can.

Expedition Exchange
British Atlantic
4WheelOutfitters

These are the last few places I know of where you can buy brand new cans.

I've had a couple for years. They don't leak when closed, but they do leak a little when pouring into the tank. I switched to a super syphon and eliminated that issue. I also have Scepter cans and one of the 4 likes to leak a little.
