Great pictures! Hope the back heals up well.

Any issues with water getting in going that deep?

I was only maybe 24-30" deep in the spot where the picture was taken...I'd have another 6-8" before I started getting to the bottom of the floor deck. Once we hit the floor deck lots of bad things start happening...

I actually need to do something about my air intake for the engine next year, as the engine currently draws right below the PS headlight at around 36" off the ground. I'd like to move up to a mushroom snorkel just in front of the windshield....that gets the intake around 60" which is more than enough for any foolishness.

Just a brief End Of Year update. I was able to finish up the drive shaft repair with a pair of new Spicer U-Joints. While I had it apart I went to town with the wire wheel and flap discs and brought the entire length of the shaft down to bare steel. Fresh primer and paint finished it up and now the DS should be good for years.

It was then time to strip out that poor bashed up (and almost brand new) Rancho shock and swap in a (new) new one. I'll say it again....nylock nuts on ALL shock fasteners is a must. I already knew this from previous mishaps but for some reason I needed to learn this particular lesson a couple times...

So Boomer is now parked for the winter, antifreeze in the tanks and put to bed. Of course, it's 58 degrees and sunny out right now on this lovely 12th day of December, so if Spring comes early (or rather, Winter truly gives up for the year), than the 2016 travel season is going to be extended!

We are actively planning the big trip to Newfoundland for this coming summer and Boomer will be under the knife once again in the spring to prepare for the adventure.

Happy Holidays everybody.

Nylon locking nuts have their uses.

But in the case of something like a shock bolt nut,
what you really need is a non-nylon locking nut, like a Stover lock nut.

Indeed. The shocks came with Stover lock nuts for the top stud and they work well. I built the lower shock brackets so when the bolt and nut tighten up the steel ears actually pinch the inner steel sleeve of the shock eyelet and I can then put some good torque on the whole lower assembly. A Stover would be best, but the Nylock in this application (where the nut isn't relying solely on the Nylon to keep it in place) is acceptable. At least for now ;)

DRAM3 just made it into print. OutdoorX4 published an article written by DRAM3 team member Ripper and it came out great.

2016 is already shaping up to be a big year for the "Boomer adventure squad". (I'm still working on that). Lots of Maine, DRAM4, possibly 1 or more trips into Canada. The first adventures will be occurring at the end of May/Beginning of June and I've got a laundry list of things to do. This may be the year for a rear OX locker, and I need new front and rear springs so April and early May will be very busy on the upgrade front.

Oh, and that damn roof rack. I need to build that too.

Well, as spring starts peeking its lovely head around the corner it is time for a few brief updates.

Update #1: Boomer is headed south for April Vacation! The family is packing up the 3rd week of April and headed to NC to enjoy some sun and some family. We're taking a full week to get down there and back so hopefully there will be plenty of oppertunity for R&R as well as maybe a little adventure.

Update #2: Its time to spill the beans on a project I've been working on with the leadership at Mountain State Overland.

For those not familier with MSO, they are a highly qualified group of adventurists based out of Virginia. Their primary mission to date has been to document and accurately portray the adventure travel possibilities in Appalachia. I met Jason at the Vermont Overland Rally last fall and after some back and forth over the next couple months he decided that Season 3 of their Youtube channel should feature Maine and all it has to offer. He asked for my direct participation in logistics and invited me along for their travels. How could I refuse!! I've been a huge fan of both seasons and am REALLY looking forward to the adventures which are in store. Of course Boomer will be present and accounted for and there will be lots of busyness leading up to the day of departure.

In preparation of the trip south I'll only have time for the basics (air/oil filters, oil change, frame painting, etc) but with all the work done last fall after DRAM3 there isn't too much to be done anyway.

So as the daffodils start peeking thru the remnants of the late season snowfall, the Boomer 2016 Season kicks off.
