Adam, if you have not done the family trip yet here is what I did. I created a cardboard boot between the cab and cap, that kept ambient air out and allowed just AC air in, then I used the silver reflective stuff and covered both side windows to reduce solar gain... it worked in August from NY to Bristol, TN and back.

I modified my bedrack last night. raised it 6" to accomodate my fridge in the bed. The fridge would barely slide underneath the rack. I haven't really used the fridge in the bed with the bed rack. It has either been on the rear seat platform or in the bed with the topper on the truck. I have a trip coming up where I need the RTT mounted to the rack so the topper won't be on the truck and I have 2 passengers so I need to back seat and therefore the platform can't be used for the fridge.

I cut off and rebuilt the legs of the rack to allow room for the fridge and a drawer slide for the fridge. Still need to finish up the Fridge slide but the rack just needs paint and it's ready to go. Pics soon.

Small update. I have had a pair of drawer slides for probably 10 years that have been waiting for a project to use them. I was looking to improve my fridge setup in the bed of the truck. The fridge barely fit under my bedrack. That was problem one. So I chopped the legs off the bedrack and rebuilt them raising the rack about 6". This allowed room under the rack for the fridge and a custom slide. Also, my CO2 tank could fit upright under the RTT with the rack at the new height. So a win win.

I built a simple 1x1" "subframe" for the fridge and mounted my Engel Transit lock to it. Then it was a matter of bolting that to the slides and welding some mounting brackets. I bolted it all down with some eye-bolts so I had a few new tie-down points. All in all it seems to work well. The only potential issue is how the bearings in the slides handle the dust. Time will tell on that one.

Just want to say that I love your craftsmen ship and build quality...everything is so clean. Even the way you have your build thread laid out is clean. One day I hope to be on the same level as you. :victory:

Built this roof rack a couple days ago. I purchased a pair of Front Runner rack rails from Equipt Expedition Outfitters to use for mounting. Apparently these rails were one of two set left since these are now out of production. These rails are designed for a Hilux so the curvature of the roof is slightly different, but very close. I had to fabricate custom clamps that attach in the door frame since the Hilux ones won't work.

I like these rails because they are lower than using load bars/feet from Thule or Yakima and mounting a rack on top of the load bars. Also the feet runs the full length of the roof to distribute the load better. I guess these went out of production because it wasn't cost effective to produce the rubber extrusion for the mounting pads. I think there could be some ways to do something similar, but this is strong and there is no drilling the roof.

The rest of the rack is pretty simple but I wanted a low profile platform the reduce wind resistence (and I like how they look better). I recessed some tiedown tracks into the sides. Now I'm saving up for a lightbar to go across the front.

Adam, some measures/dimensions and detalied pictures of the fixing clamps can be done? I want to fabricate a copy of Baja Rack for my 2001 DC Hilux and the only thing I have troubles with are the fixing feet. I'll think to use the Thule 750 kit, but I have to get a solution to weld the rack to the feet.

I just used the factory rack with the Bajarack. I am kind of limited to how much wieght I can put up there but I never had any intentions of putting a lot there. The guy at Bajarack told me I was the first he knew to mount one on a 1st gen. Doublecab when I bought mine years ago when they first came out.
