Building an Expedition-Worthy 2005 4Runner

Thanks for the return welcome :)

My mistake on the wheels - I'm keeping mine, which are 17 inches. Anyone know the best tire size for no rubbing with a 2.5 inch lift?

I definitely should have just changed my screen name...didn't know it could be done.

BFG will be releasing the 255/80-17 in the KM2 sometime in late Summer to early fall. I checked today and they've loaded the tire in our POS system at work within the past week. When I checked Michelin's automated ordering system, they said not available. That pretty much means our company has a firm commitment to get some in 2 months time frame (of course that can change.)

So far, those I know with the KM2s say they're a lot like the AT KOs in terms of ride and handling. Almost all of those had the older BFG MT design in the 265/75-16 or 265/70-17 size. I'd imagine the 255/80-17 will have a bit more sidewall flex on corners as is expected. Might be worth holding out for a few more weeks.

If anyone wants to know for sure on the date, PM Monday and I'll call them to get a better idea.

New suspension installed

After a few scrapes and bruises, I managed to get the new suspension in with relative ease following Photog's no spring compressor install.

I think this gave me more than 2.5-inches of lift. Maybe the old springs and shocks were worn out, but it feels like a good 3-4 inches higher. I should have made some measurements to be sure.

The new suspension is OME 886 coils in front and 896 in back, and the new Nitrocharger sport shocks that were just introduced.

The tires are ordered and will go on next week, and I'll be working on putting on the front bumper until then.

The 4Runner looks great. One of my favorite platforms.

What is next?

If it has the 17" wheels, look for the 255/75 R17 from the Wrangler Rubicons. A perfect size for that truck, and will fit on the stock wheels.

Many thanks! I looked into getting new 16 inch wheels, but they rubbed the brake calipers. So I ordered some 255/75R17 Goodyear MTR Kevlars. I heard the tread pattern works great in the mud while at the same time reduces road noise. And I like not having to worry about puncturing the sidewall.

I'm about to drive down to Colorado Springs to pick up the sliders from Armorology. Then it's time to put the front bumper on. I've got to get this thing field-ready by the end of next week! :coffeedrink:

If you haven't already ordered the tires, you should see if there is a shop that will test fit a 275/70/17 MTR. I installed them on a club members 24 4runner (just like yours, same lift and all). No rubbing and it gives you width and height.

Just a though.

Thanks for the post-I have a 06 4R and am very interested in your build. If it's not too personal, what's the sticker for what you have done so far?

I've already ordered the 255/75R17 Goodyear MTR Kevlars. I like 'em a little skinnier than 275, just as a preference.
