classic range rover diesel conversion

My old 1983 6.2 Suburban used to get around 22mpg on the hwy (3/4 2wd with 700r4). There are a couple of over drives for the LT230 but they would require modification of the floor of the RRC to fit. My 1996 6.5TD Suburban gets around 17mpg hwy but it has the heavy duty towing gears, it does around 2400rpm @ 70mph.

i do understand that tent and the roof rack and the tire all of those dont help getting better mpg. but where em i gonna put the tent or the rack.? no other way. may be i can just leave it there, any ways i go back that way very often lol haha

as far as your post regarding no backing up on mechanical challenges , :) its just part of the fun :)

i guess 17mpg on the freeway is already big increase over the 3.9, 11 mpg but why not make it 25 mpg+

As a start you can just swap your two racks (put the tent on the rear end of the roof) and mount a small wind deflector at the basket.

You can also try to take the tyre of the bonnet and keep it in the boot for some test runs. (I know, if it is successfull, you are stuck with the question "where to put now permanetly?")

The tyre on the bonnet might not be that much of a problem , Land rover found that the series 109 had less drag with the wheel on the bonnet than without.
Running with aroof rack is the big drag generator , even with nothing on it . generally reckoned to be worth 3 mpg on a defender . HTSH

rover is running beautiful. i took few trips, its ready for the change. i got 95% of the needed parts.
but i wanna do it after the southern california land rover club trip to death valley.

as soon as i get back, i will take the rover apart and put the T56

( those pics are from last 3 weeks. sierra nevada mnts, and mojave desert )

Looking forward to reading about that swap, as it comes together. Hope I'm first in line to get my hands on the old adapter still:sombrero: If I am let me know what you have in mind on price so I can plan on raiding the piggy bank :D

Cool pictures.

Injection pump not giving you any problems with the motor oil blend?

those DB2 injection pumps are not been desined for ULSD. the more oil in there the more they will last. army diesel has a lot more oil in there than what we have in the market

and we start the next stage of the conversion .

the latest update on my classic is, that we used old man heavy duty springs, and it didn't do the job they are not strong. we end up using ford F250 front springs. now it works amazing , power str pump from original range rover motor went south, now we use the original humvee heavy duty Power str pump..

this T 56 BRAND NEW short ratio used on corvette. Aston martin and viper.

6.2 works beautiful, sounds beautiful, but she is lonly without T 56 :)
