I opted for just using FIPG on the pan and torqued to a little tighter than spec. Cleaned the snot out of the gasket surfaces too. I checked for it being true as best as possible. Crossing fingers.

FIPG only?

According to Toyota, the part numbers are the same?!? Don't make me rip the head off again!

What years are you looking at? I should have been more clear, only the late model 2F gasket application is the same, it was different but when discontinued was superseded to the 3FE application. However the true 2F gasket it different and should not be used.

2F thru 10/84: 11115-61010
2F/3FE 10/84+: or 11115-61020 which supercedes to 11115-61030

I was just pulling up a bunch of pics and cant say I see a difference even in the Toyota part #s. I ended up with a Beck Arnley gasket on the second go round though.... for an 89 3FE (supposedly). If it fails on me, hopefully we wont be in BFE and if it does fail.... well that will be my excuse for putting more ponies or some black smoke under the hood.

Slight but important differences:

(Not my pics, found on google search but that seems to jive with my memory. I could pull and compare a couple Japanese or OEM ones at the shop tomorrow)

But your pic is backwards ;)

And people have had to pull the head off because of that. My dad an I rebuilt a 2F when I was a teenager, pretty sure it was 100% my fault as he handed me the head gasket to orient on the block. Bolt the head on and it has no oil making its way to the valve train. Sure enough, I put it on backwards. :D

Well to me the most obvious sign is the tear drop shaped hole. Plus it actually only fit on there one way. If someone were to put that head gasket on a 3FE wrong, they had to force it on, that's for sure!

I'm just relieved. You actually got my blood boiling yesterday and I was having a bit of an anxiety attack, with a side order of denial. Not directed at you, of course, just the situation.

Doing good man! Can't wait to see your Cruiser out on the trails or maybe on I-40 headed to OE. Keep at it!

Whew! Just coming in 13 hours put in today.

Engine is in and started making the mounting plates for the cross member.

Thanks Lee (1911) for coming up to help!

The passenger side bracket is made and it bolts in needs a bit more welding, cleaning and paint and then I will start the drivers side which is more complicated....
