How do you find the Rods for daily driving?

I'm thinking of sticking a set on my D3 but as i do 15k a year of on road driving i don't want to ruin the on road driving for a small gain.
Going halfs on a multi Vin IID tool with a D3 owning mate so will have that side covered but looking at a "Belts and braces" approach to it.

Because I'm still on stock size tires, I only use the rods when I know I'm going to be offroad. I also drive a lot for work so I'm trying to keep it as practical as possible.

With that said, i know a lot of people with LR3/4's that use rods everyday with no issues. I think it just hurts your mileage a bit.

I run the rods all the time on my LR3 combined with 275/65-18 Duratracs. It definitely drivers worse than it did stock on 19" street tires, but by no means troublesome. It's all about expectations I guess....I keep adding weight to mine (skids, sliders, bumpers...) and it keeps detracting from the road manners but I bought it as a trail rig that can be drive on the street, not a daily driver.

The ideal situation would be to install the rods then use the GAP IId tool with 2 programed heights. One for on-road and one for off. You could ride around on the road at about stock height then in about 30 seconds raise it up when you get to the trailhead. I really think the combo of the rods and the IId tool is the best case.
(I should admit I just leave mine in the stock 'rods' mode and don't follow my own advice here, but again it's not a daily driver and I admit I just like the way it looks lifted compared to the many stockers I see daily)

I'm eventually going to 18"s and a larger tire when my current Coopers wear out. I will probably run rods all the time then.

New Winch

Almost getting stuck a few times at SCARR inspired me to make an addition to my LR4 last weekend. I did have several people in my group with enough winches and straps to get me out if I did get stuck, but none the less.

I sourced the mount and the TJM winch from a very good local shop and did the install myself.

I love that winch mount on the LR4. Sleek enough not to stick out and ruin the clean lines of the LR4 but noticeable to the gear head who looks close enough.

That is an excellent looking install! Do you know if the winch mount is compatible with an LR3? I would also like to know who made the mount. Do you have a front skid e.g. mantec installed as well?
