Satoshi is in the works ;)

I like the way the Satoshi grill looked on this Tacoma V8 Incross concept truck at SEMA 2008

Me too! Do it - the truck will look so much better!

Lets compare the two grills...

I did too but in the end decided to use the BDF grill so I could have the space to stash a couple of IPF's behind it to keep the mental midgets from tinkering with my lights when I'm not around to personally encourage them not to. I'm using his light bar to mount the lights to keep them from shaking around on washboards and such.

Once I move the transmission cooler I'll go ahead and order another set to be able to wire in a third light.

If you end up not liking the Satoshi insert and need a replacement grill or would just rather chop on a second grill let me know as I bought an aftermarket spare for mine - black, unpainted - in case I wouldn't like it or goofed bad enough to ruin the original.

Now to decide who to have fab up a new rear bumper...

EDIT: Well, Aluminess didn't really seem interested in making anything with cut bedsides since they just want to mass produce direct OEM replacement stuff. I tried to give Jim at Outdoor Logic a shot at this project (and this huge market) but it turned into a very frustrating experience where appointments were cancelled last minute on me and the timeline became ridiculous - I have a very low tolerance for flaky BS. To sum it up, they are not interested in making anything for the 2nd Gen Tacoma.

So, I contacted long time industry fab guru and FJ/Tacoma expert Jason Demello for a no-nonsense build on this to address my evolving needs. Stay tuned.

New Storm Cover

I despise the big blue storm cover that FRP sells. It is designed in a way (not a true rectangle) that makes it necessary to put it on one way only - reversing it 180 degrees causes it to not fit right (too tight) and this can be a royal PITA. The color was awful IMO and when inside you had almost zero visibility in addition to minimal ventilation. And, a cheap system of securing the fly to the tent - FRP supplied white bungie cords that were instantly dirty and matched the "hobo tarp" look of the fly after one use. The two battens for the vents are sewn in place i.e. not removable or replaceable... For a $300+ OEM fly I was less than impressed.

Adventure Trailers sells a MUCH improved design made by SLO Sail. Better material, better ventilation, windows for better visibility, a 360 degree bungee cord around the bottom of the fly and multiple attachment points/buckles for real straps to tie it down if needed in a Pacific Northwest storm. It features removeable/replaceable battens for the vents and, you can throw it on in either direction because of it's true rectangular shape and generous cut.

Finally, a modern design that complements the vehicle

The new rain fly looks great. Is it 100% waterproof? Or do you have to fuss with it like the other one, coat it with waterproofing on your own like the OEM one.
Iremember you NikWaxed the blue version, which I don't think the customer should have to do, should be water proofed from the factory.

No such thing as 100% waterproof ;)

I'm leaving this one stock unless I find that it needs treatment though I suspect that this material is more water resistant.

From AT's site:
"Manufactured using 210 Denier, urethane-coated Nylon. Seams are joined (sewn then folded over and top stitched with triple step zig-zag) and stitched using V-92 Polyester, an extremely high-tensile-strength and abrasion-resistant thread. "
