I have a full size spare. It BARELY fits in the stock location (rubs the diff a little) so I carry it aired down a bit. I will be adding a spare tire/hi-lift cross-bed rack similar to DesertDude's setup soon... stay tuned!

Eezi-Awn 1600 Series 3
Yes, Santa finally made it... and all he brought me was this Eezi-Awn 1600 Series 3 from Sierra Expeditions... :drool:
I slept in it already, took me a nap right there in the driveway (imagining I was somewhere south of San Felipe, enroute to Cabo). Today I will let it air out, it smells too new!
Here it is sitting in my driveway. Setup takes only a couple of minutes, unlike my old ground tent. This thing is heavy duty, Mil-Spec construction all around. The Strand mattress is actually pretty comfortable too.
I really like how all the windows and screens zip out for max airflow. Zippers are all well sewn and heavy duty.
Getting it mounted to my standards is the next challenge...

Rack Ideas...

I have been thinking of building a bed platform for my 06 similar to scott's. I wanted to build it flush with the top of the bed and make it out of metal like he did to keep rain, dust and thieves from the stuff inside. My concept consists of an aluminum-skinned frame made out of angle iron. The l-shaped angle iron would sit partly on the on the top and the other side could be attached to the rails using bolts and hardware. You would have to crawl inside to undo to bolts in order to get it off and you would have to install a lock in the tailgate to keep things secure, but I think you could easily make it tough enough to handle the weight of the eezi awn. I don't think the rails are tough enough, but the angle iron would put the weight on the top- not on the rails themselves.

Good idea, and you could have tabs come down from the frame to bolt to the load channels.
My cover is a little overkill for just the tent. I can actually stand on it (it weighs 80 lbs. with the Rhino Lining)

'07 Taco Dcab TRD checking in. We just got a taco about a week ago. I haven't read the entire thread yet, but am working on it. Lots of good info. I also have a '93 4runner that I am working on. The plan is to build my trailer and have some kind of expedition storage system that can be easily transfered between vehicles. I would like to have my choice of vehicles, 4runner for more heavy offroad travel and the taco for longer trips with minor offroading. I look forward to reading this whole thread for ideas. My wife made me promise to not "mod" the taco, so I have to be stealth and mod the runner and make my storage system work in both.
