Doc's AT FlipPac Build Thread

As I refine my load plan, I find that I may be able to reduce my footprint by combining the contents of two of the Action Packers into one Pelican case.

I'm pretty sure I can store my Baja Burner and my BBQ box in one - see how the BBQ box fits perfectly in a Pelican 1550 with room to spare:

In this fashion, my entire IGT ensamble can consist of a Pelican 1550 and the IGT canvas carrying case. I like it.

Hmmmm.... :coffee:

Does the baja burner and grill fit in a 1550 case? I have been thinking of doing the same thing, any pics?

Questions?

DOC,
Did you do any additionial work to the rear suspension? What type of carpet did you use inside the flip pac? Then lastly where is your rear bumper from?

I just reread this entire thread for the umpteenth time. Great work!

I spent the last year putting together an '85 4Runner for wheeling/camping, but I think it's going to be too small for our purposes. We're a family of three and shooting for one more in the near future (3 year old daughter currently), and I need to upsize to make room. In your opinion, could a young family of 4 camp comfortably in a setup like yours?

Look at Shruk's build (Titan w/FlipPac), he camps with a family of four and they are quite comfortable.

Each of my girls brought a friend for the camping trip over Labor Day weekend. We had my wife and I on the FP bed, one girl on the hammock in the FP roof, one girl on the foam bed in the bed of the truck and two girls in the cab with the seats laying flat. It actually worked much better than I expected.

I suspect a week would be about the max I could do with six of us but that may be because all the girls were 11 or 12! We could do four for months at a time very easily, especially all being family that have grown up with this setup.

If anyone is looking for the Kelty Car Tarp that Doc has in his kit they seem to be nearly half off at the REI outlet at the moment. Ordered mine as I plan to follow Doc's lead and fix it to the rear of the Flippac I ordered. Oh, and thanks again Doc for taking the time to document the in's and out's of the Flippac.

Yes! The Snow Peak single BBQ Box and Baja Burner will fit perfectly in a Pelican 1550 case if you angle the Baja Burner just right :)
