Now to investigate a dual battery setup... How long do you guys think I could safely run this off my current optima red top between starting the truck, 12 hours?
Easier to replace the optima with an Odyssey PC1700 and worry less.

at 68 amp hours that odessey is pretty beefy compared to the 44 amp hours from my redtop. its also pretty damn heavy at 60 pounds, should i be concerned about that additional weight on the stock battery tray? my optima is already almost 2x the stock battery weight and this is 2x the optima!

optima yellow tops and odyssey 1700's are pricey at ~200, for just a little more i potentially could go for a cheap 2nd battery solution.

should i be worried about batteries that weight 60+ lbs in the stock location for a 04 tacoma without reinforcing it somehow?

I'll be re-doing some of my electrical soon, and when I do, I'll have to take some pics.

The Odyssey can be purchased with a metal shell. The battery is siliconed into that shell, just a touch on the front and back, easily cut and removed from the shell.

I then took 6 heavy duty rivets and attached the shell to the stock mounting surface. It sat this way with a piece of 1x1 metal under the stock battery bracket until I was able to get a new one fabricated. The Odyssey is shorter than the stock battery.

You can read more about it here: http://www.4wdtrips.net/forum/showpost.php?p=70118&postcount=17

FYI: Bruce TS just posted a pic of either a 4runner or a Tacoma with two optimas mounted in the same spot, side by side, I wouldn't worry about the ability of the truck to support the weight.

Congratulations on what will become your favorite accessory! You'll grin from ear to ear each time you reach in and grab something cold and dry ;). This was one purchase I went back and forth on for several months before pulling trigger. After all you can buy a 15cuft unit for home for the price of these puny units...but in the end it doesn't matter because you can't haul one on your rig ;). Everyone told me it would become my favorite accessory and I now concur!

Thanks so much for the heads up, $589 delivered for the fridge and a slide lock is a great deal!

Glad you can use it (i'll get it out in the morning) now if one of you guys just needs a roof tent :jump:
