Equipt's new platform - The 2013 4Runner Trail

You must really love Toyotas. Interesting choice. Not really exciting though. I know I'll get flamed but a 4runner just seems lame. It has no historical basis in expeditions or overland travel or even 4x4 prowess. It's a college Frat boys truck. LC, LR, Jeep, Nissan Patrol, Gwgen, even the Montero seems more appropriate.
I wouldn't say this to a normal guy and his build, but you are Equipt Expedition Outfitters. I was expecting more.

I guess it makes a statement, you can be the first to do it, good luck. Let's see what you've got.

Well, all that you listed have been done, and done again, and again. Kinda boring really.

Don't see too many Lambos though.

The 5th gen 4runner to me is the successor of the Land Cruiser 100 in terms of its size, room, comfort and capabilities.

What does history have anything to do with it? Besides why do the same thing over and over again like a broken record- I'd rather make history but then that's just me.

I've gotta agree. What a boring choice. Why not something with some REAL history behind it? I'm thinking something like a camel or a donkey. That is how you would REALLY impress me and get my attention. Think about the possibilities. Perhaps a "Mary, Mother of Jesus" edition donkey with limited edition infant seat? Or maybe an "Ahab the Arab" edition camel, hang some emeralds and rubies from it. Be sure to name the camel Clyde.

PS Camels don't need snorkels and donkey have great torque and MPG (miles per grains).

LOL!!!

Yeah, but you can't add a roof rack, awning, seat covers, fridge, batt. Mngmt. System, solar panels, roof tents, and sliding drawers etc. and that's why they bought it.
Maybe with two or three camels you could carry all that stuff and then set it up in camp. Sounds good, ultimate "green" transport.
Beer bong is the best idea though. Instead of creating an Overland Expedition vehicle they could create the ultimate frat party tailgate vehicle. Could still use the fridge and awning etc. already have the Tiki bar.

Very cool! We almost ended up with a 5th gen for the new kid hauler. Went with the GX instead, but I still love the 4R. :)

Wish it was an FJ, that's what I'm spending my money on.

I would think, more people are modding/adventuring in $30K Fj's than $40K 4Runners. (and going more places too)

It's hard to mod when you have to make room for baby seats and yoga bags!

I don't care what someone chooses. It is their choice. I just want to see what he is going to do with and learn from any interesting ideas. Every vehicle has pros and cons. That's what makes it fun.

Paul, just keep us updated on the all the new products you bring in to kit this thing out.

I just picked up the exact same truck, except it's a 2012. Excited to see the build, I hope it gives me ideas!

Is this truck KDSS equipt?

Its chosen to showcase expensive add ons to the target audience. All you guys with the traditional expo rigs already have your add ons. 5th gen guys are just starting out and obviously have money to spend. You gotta read into it a bit and use your head :p

It will end up a fine expo vehicle and sell lots of fun stuff...mission accomplished.

Trail Edition ha

You should check out the hardware that comes with the trail edition.
1. Rear Locker
2. KDSS (one of the coolest off-highway technologies to come along in some time)
3. A-TRAC
4. 265 HP and 21 mpg Highway

While the 4Runner may seem boring, this model is built on the Land Cruiser 150 platform, sharing many components with Prados and Land Cruiser IIs around the globe.

I can think of few NAS vehicles I would rather take around the world than this truck. . . ;)

Forget the months of build up.
Just have a huge wrench party and get everything installed over the course of a week.

Congrats on the new Rig.:safari-rig:

270hp* and shares the same suspension components as the FJ cruiser. There is a great deal of aftermarket support for the 5th Gen 4Runner. i am patiently waiting on more vendors to offer front and rear bumpers. The Trail Edition is a smaller, more economically version of the LC 200 series in my opinion.

BUT i must admit....after watching the Overland Journal L4R build thread, i was caught by my wife searching Autotrader for a low mileage LR4 HD lol.

There are some really interesting trucks on the market today. Most are better than they have ever been when you compare stock/stock performance. Look at the Trail Edition 4Runner, the LR4, the Rubicon Unlimited, the new diesel Grand Cherokee with air suspension and quadra-drive, the newest Tacoma, the Power Wagon, etc. They lack a lot of the charm of vehicles past, but wow are they impressive. Better on the trail, better mileage, better power, better comfort, etc.

The one glaring exception is the Land Cruiser. Give me a brand new FZJ80 over that 200 any day.
