Expeditions West: (JK) XV-JP Announcement Thread

Well Scott...to say I'm not jealous would be a huge lie. A diesel Earthromer Jeep...to freaking cool. Congrats.

Having fiddled around with Jeep coil suspensions for a few years now, I'm really curious on your choice for the suspension so if you don't mind keeping us in the loop it would be appreciated.

Congrats Scott!

I look forward to watching the build and travels of the new machine!

Sweet Rig Man!!! :safari-rig:

Curious about UPCRUISERS question: Why not fit the camper and other such heavy mods first and then test for the suspension rates, weights, etc?

I agree with him, shouldnt all the weight be added before attempting to dial the suspension?

Congrats

Congrats Scott!

I'm sure you will enjoy the build process (again) and will wind up with a great 'truck'

I'm a little surprised that (with as custom as this is going to be) that you didn't go for the UK spec CRD Diesel JK. I know a lot of us are keen to see those strart showing up under our xmas trees. Great to see though that Earthroamer are already starting on an AUS one for a customer.

I'm also a little surprised that, given how much we talk about them here - Bill or Michelle aren't more active on Expo. Especially as they now push into the new market sector (with the jeep) many of their customers will pass through these pages...

Good luck!
Jay.

That was my question too.

Not that the Jeep won't be terrific with the stock gas engine after you and ER are finished, but it would be SO MUCH BETTER with Diesel!

Since we know the exact weights of the XV-JP (each corner), we can work with suspension engineers to get a good baseline. The shocks will be adjustable on compression and rebound and have remote reservoirs. The spring rates we have already done testing on, so we have a good baseline. From this point, it will be linkages, jounce control and valving, all of which I can fine tune after fitment of the camper. :)

This is so cool!

Scott, have you followed Alex Carvallo's conversion of the JK 4 door for the Outback Challenge? Completey different build out from you intend, but there might be some interesting cross-pollination. Alex documented his build up here:
http://www.yopo4x4.com/index.php?mod=gally&id=2&eid=205&page=1

It went from this:

to this:

with a lot of this:

And I gotta say, Jeanette Garcia can set a man on fire!

congrats Scott and Stephanie. It will be a shame to see the Tacoma go, but this is going to be fantastic to watch.
