Thanks. Whoops, looks like I mixed up D45's comments with your reply. Sounds like your friend with the 7.3L was in the neighborhood of 14mpg on the road trip to pick up a canopy. That makes some sense. I imagine with a hard side camper on the back or towing it could drop much lower. I wonder what sort of load was being hauled by the guy who was getting 8 - 10.

What gears?
I took another look at the original catalogue for my truck and was unable to determine what gearset it has. I know the Hvy Duty Payload Pkg came with 9.75".. My truck does not have that package. I do have the Max Towing Pkg but the details for that package does not reflect the gearset.

There is an axle code on the vin. Probably L9 or L6.

Just checked the VIN# and no "L" showing. Also no place where a single numeral follows an alpha character.

On mine the axle code is located inside the driver side door on the B pillar where the other info like GVWR and axle ratings are located. At the bottom of one of the stickers there is a one row table. One of the columns is "axle". I have an L6 there.

In 2012 , the Max Tow option not only has more tow rating, but also includes:

Factory tow mirrors
Trailer brake controller
Bigger radiator
More payload
Different leaf spring in back as well

The regular tow packages give you 3.73 rear, upgraded radiator, transmission oil cooler (sits right in front of the upgraded radiator), hitch in the back with the trailer plug ins next to the hitch ( which ford did a good job hiding the hitch all you see is the square receiver).

With the Max Tow, you also get a different steering ratio..........20:1 for the Max Tow vs 17:1 without

Is this still true?

Sorry. That wasn't a clear explanation. There should be an axle code on the door jam.
Do you have an open diff? No locker or limited slip in the rear?

2018 Raptor 3.5L:
450 hp @ 5,000 rpm
510 lb-ft @ 3,500 rpm

Also comes with 35s and 4.10s

Regular F150 3.5L:
375 HP @ 5,000
470 TQ @ 2,500

Where does the huge bump in +75 HP and +40 TQ come from in the Raptor?

The door jam sticker shows L9 for axle. The FX4 pkg and the Max Tow Pkg both specified the 3.55 electronic-locking rear axle.

Max Tow will come with 9.75”.

In fact, I believe all 3.5 ecoboost comes with 9.75”.
I found the reference on the B pillar post on my F150 showing Axle L9, which I guess confirms the 9.75”. Learn something every day.

I could have sworn that when you bump up to the max tow package on the '21/22 f-150's that you have to run a 18 inch wheel or larger? Is that true? My understanding is it is done to accommodate larger brakes. Looking at a new f-150 and want to know what size tires I can put on without rubbing/lift.
