From the link: "Between SET-1 & SET-2 : air gap increase from 40mm to 100mm, PR increase 2.57%. Between SET-2 & SET-3 : air gap increase from 100mm to 160mm, PR increase 0.27%."

Going from 40mm to 100mm is a mere 2.57% increase in power. Not worth it on a camper, IMO. I'd drill some holes in the side and glue or tape it right down to the roof.

I like all of the windows you'll have. That my wife's biggest gripe with our truck camper. Lack of enough windows.

A potential option for those seeking more windows in a camper without excessive heat gain is an exterior window film to block heat energy before it enters the camper - madico and 3m both make a quality silver exterior film.

@Allysonoverland - what made you choose Arctic? windows vs. outbound or kct??

Those films might protect the acrylic plastic as well. We certainly have the whole Baja pinstripe thing down and acrylic window would have taken a beating on our rig.

OP I would definitely look into a heat recovery vent system if I were building a composite camper. Condensation can be a huge problem and a roof vent lets all the heat escape. Heat exchangers that allow you to recover the heat rather than simply draw in cold air can make a huge difference.

Most of the companies I see in this space are European and found in higher end units like Blis Mobile. If I find more information oh what I’m referring to I’ll post up some links.

budget and weight were my final deciding factors on tern windows vs outbound. Outbound windows are incredible quality, but heavier and significantly more expensive. as much as I love a boujee camper I have tried to toe the line between what is necessary and what is not. It’s easy to get caught up in thinking you need the most expensive of everything! Especially after touring all these new to market fancy expedition trucks costing half a million +..

however, i had to be real with myself. I had a tern window in my van and it was my favorite window. I was happy enough with it. I will admit it ended up with some scuffs during some off-roading in Alaska, and the clear version felt hazy after a while if not cleaned frequently. It also didn’t open as wide as Id have liked. For those reasons I had my build spec’d for outbound windows.

however, in the process - tern released their new flat profile window, a 57” wide option, and with a darker tint. they also released brackets allowing the window to open a full 90 degrees. Basically a lot of my qualms were fixed with their new design options so I decided to pivot and save some $.

unfortunately, tern still doesn’t make a window as big as I wanted for the rear (67”) so I had a custom fixed dual pane one made by an rv window manufacturer that looks similar from the outside. It just arrived yesterday and will be installed soon! pics to come :)

I am planning to put a smart home roll up blackout blind above it so it can be easily closed on voice command for privacy or temp regulation. Also not opposed to doing an insulated window cover that I can put up during the extreme weather, as that made a huge difference in my van windows.

with limited reviews on the new tern window style, and having this custom window installed, It is slightly a gamble but saved me thousands and felt worth the risk😊

Oh, and one more thing.. the “kerf” nose on my camper gives it a rounded profile at the front. Inside; all the cabinet ends are rounded, the countertop corners are rounded. There is an arch above the shower doorway. so I felt like the curved corners on the tern windows and doors kept the theme going. Outbounds boxy square corners would have been fine but I honestly think the rounded looks better with my design. A happy accident!

Thank you! That was an occasional gripe with my van as well. It felt like a dungeon inside when I couldn’t have my doors open. but it was super insulated and sound proof! lol pick your struggle I guess..
my biggest gripe with traditional truck campers is you can’t usually see out the windows without ducking down or sitting.

You are absolutely right about the window height in TCs. Compromises.
I am enjoying your build and the design decisions. With a cabinetmaking and GC background, I'd love to build one out, but that would cut into our travels.
BTW, we picked up our F450 a couple of weeks ago. Moding it for our purposes.
