For all of my projects I do a lot of planning and design before I begin work, and for most of my projects I do concept drawings so I can visualize what the result will look like. I started thinking about the chuck wagon project about 3 years ago, and in June 2013 I did the concept image on the left. I always like to go back and compare the original concept images to the reality of the project - the photo on the right I took the other day.
That was for the basic concept of the chuck wagon shell, then I drew in some hatches.
So far the reality is sticking pretty close to the concept.
I'll be putting the tent on soon, here's what the concept image says it'll look like...

I'll probably use it more as a larger covered cargo trailer than anything else - there's a good amount of weatherproof room inside for larger items now.

Thinking a little more about outfitting...
For extra storage, a PA-60 60mm mortar can/AN/RVS-14 monocular night vision device case is a perfect height to fit on the side under the angle of the tub.
The front wall of the chuck wagon might be a good place to mount my sand ladders.
Although they're not often needed (hopefully never!), and they weigh a bit, so perhaps they'd be better mounted under the frame. The ones I have are 48" long, so they would stick out a few inches on each side of the 40-ish wide frame though. Sticking out they could be an opportunity for cutting shins, so perhaps mounting them at an angle under the tongue angle rails would be better.

I like the look of the sand ladder on the front of the storage box. That would be a nice place to mount a Hi-Lift also.

If mounted under the frame, you could the sand ladders like a step to get into the trailer from the top.

I hadn't thought of that. Might be able to fit the sand ladders and the HiLift, I think there's probably enough room.
Or, you could make a rack to hold some ammo cans for additional storage?

Hadn't thought of that either, but being 6'6", I rarely think of needing steps to get at high things
. A step could also be useful if instead of a roof top tent you had a rack on top for extra gear...
