While taking the springs off after work, I was walking the rear up using the high-lift and CRASH! Yeah forgot to block the front tires. Yeah it could have been real bad, but the only damage was to the poor e-locker harness which got its wires ripped out. Should be able to fix that over the weekend.

REMINDER TO BLOCK WHEELS!!!

Glad you and the truck are okay.

Well, I have been having issues with my rear suspension since the trophy... I found the culprit! Off to Deaver tomorrow to get them fixed:

But 11 or 12 pack would give the rear a little more beef........:REExeSquatsHL1:

LOL, I had Deaver put in another leaf to make it an 11 pack. As Tony stated above the leaves were sitting almost completely flat as it was... once I was loaded it was negatively arching just slightly, and that was the cause of the shock issue from the Trophy.

Most can get away with a 10 pack, but apparently my Taco needs a diet and therefore needed an 11 pack.

The springs are now settled in and it now rides like it should... night and day difference. I can now make a left turn with out worrying about rolling over! It had a wicked lean to the passenger side.

Too much junk inside that trunk...:shakin:

Glad to hear that Deaver fixed the rear leafs up for you!

Well... just broke my Deavers today....

Went out on a small test run today to test some small items. I got the rear wheel stuffed, when I heard a snap! I broke the top leaf of my Deaver 11 Pack.

I am pissed, I have two trips on them since they were re-built by Deaver when I had the spring clip issue. When they did that I had them add another leaf, and re-arch the springs... as the 10 pack was sitting pretty flat.

SO, my question is this, by having the springs re-arched could that cause the springs to be weaker from the re-arching them?

DUDE! That sucks!

Re-arching the springs doesn't seem like it would be good for them, but who's to say?

... When you coming back out this way for repairs?

Not sure... I am pretty mad... so I think I am going to try and make them pay for everything, if I can have them shipped to me great! We'll find out on Monday.

I don't blame you.

I spoke with them about my rear end sag issues since adding the bumper and was told that despite having already bought and paid for the LARGEST leaf pack they make for my Tacoma (which was supposed to not sag) that there was nothing that could be done for my sag short of dropping $700 for a completely new CUSTOM set of springs...

I'm still not happy with that answer and may take my business to National Spring in San Diego...

Yeah, so far the rear springs have been nothing but issues since I took out the lift blocks... I kinda want them back! AllPro springs and that issue.... now this is issue #2 with Deaver. I should went with Alcans

:Wow1:That's too bad that your having those kind of problems and amazed that it snapped so easily. Anyways, I'm having ZERO issues with my custom Alcans:sombrero:

I spoke before on another thread about there excellent customer service. It really can't be beat. They made a life long customer out of me.

Also, when I put my CBI swing out bumper on, there was no sag at all. I still had the same amount of height in the rear. I don't know why Alcans are not very popular here, but they should be. I usually don't recommend something just because I own it. I know I have stuff that is not the best and could be better, but I do know that Alcan has been a good company to me and I chose the right product.

Wil, sorry to hear about your frustrations.

I have to second Doc's suggestion about National Spring. They are here in SD, so not local for you. But I have heard nothing but good from them. A friend has a 4x4 Van that has their springs and he loves them. They can figure out your weight and make springs accordingly. And, look at it this way, it's gonna start getting hot in Arizona. Might as well come out to sunny San Diego! I know where you could stay too!:sombrero:

Wil,

I was told to ask one A Walter about the broken spring road...

Seriously that is really anoying. Here's my take on re-arching. IMO re-arching will not cause the springs to be weaker unless there is already a flaw in the material before they are re-arched. In that case all it would do is accelerate the failure. Material failure is usually driven by stress risers (concentrated load in one area) or material defects combined with cyclic loading (called fatigue failure). In your case I suspect that there was a material flaw that finally caused the spring to fail when you stressed it (flexed it).

I would go with a new set of 11 leafs and that should solve your problems.

For the record I've busted 3 leaf springs on my Tacoma:
OEM spring on passenger, full OEM replacement springs both passenger and driver site. I'm now using a set of Deaver 9 leafs with no failures but thew do sag when loaded. Time to lighten up the rear!

Good luck.
P

P.S. Did you fix that e-locker wiring problem?

...).
