For those considering 255/85/16s...ST/MAXX is coming soon

I wonder if we might see this tire sized picked up by any Cooper affiliates. I know some of them offered the 255/85R16 based on the old ST. I wonder if they will transition to the ST MAXX carcus? For most of them, I expect the Cooper branded tire will be better, but it might provide some additional tread choices down the road. I wouldn't expect to see ******** Cepek or Micky Thompson pick it up but who knows.

Also I did a quick look at Wikipedia and they had sources indicating the merger deal with the Indian company Apollo fell through in December. So at this point Cooper is still and American tire company. At least as far as I can tell.

Seems like the promotions I've seen lately excluded the ST/Maxx. I got $1400 out the door for five here in Chaffee county. Online would have been about $100 cheaper, but I value the things my city, county and state governments provide.

Nice sir. The lowest price is not always the best all around value. I like having real brick and mortar stores too. :)

Shocker

VanDOOM!
A local 4x4 shop quoted me 825 for the 265/75r16. I will have to go back and see what he can get the 255's for. That price is pretty good for the Maxx locally. Discount Tire might beat it if I ask.

My biggest concern is the width. With VanDOOM running the 16x7 Alcoa wheels, they are a little more offset to the inside, so I thought the 265's would be a little better with the extra width.

Local quote, 1180 for 4 mounted out the door. 4 weeks out.

For those of you that get a chance to see the 255/85s first hand, or are having them mounted:
Please weigh a tire before mounting and post it for all to see. Have seen a few comments regarding ST Maxx tires coming in heavier than listed. Thanks!

Edit - Saw that Tread Depot lists 255s at 53lbs, and lists the 285s at 55lbs. Does that match your weights?

Discount put me on the back order waiting list. I was told Late Feb. in early Jan.....I was surprised to get the call a month early...

Put your name on the list....They will come! I paid $236 a tire. Thread depot had them for $198 each plus Shipping. After shipping Discount had them beat by $4....

I'm on the B/O list. My dealer said basically the same. Just get on the list, they might get them out sooner, but if your not on the list, good luck getting then in stock at a retail location.

If anyone with a dually gets a set, please post up some photo's or a least thoughts on fitment. I'd rather have tall and skinny to avoid spacers but sounds like these are shorter and wider than I'd like. The KM2's are great size wise but would like something a little less aggressive, quieter, and longer wearing. Really like the tread pattern of these.

Wouldn't mind seeing these compared side by side with some of the other existing 255x85r16s (the Toyo's specifically) ... but I know that's a tall ask, and not likely to happen unless someone's already got a set of 255s and is replacing with these. But you know what they say, you never know until you ask and put it out there ... so I'm putting it out there.

I was very excited to read about this tire coming out, but will admit to being a bit disappointed to hear about it measuring shorter and wider than other 255 sizes ... which is why I'm hoping to see the direct comparison.

Alternatively, if someone in the greater Denver area gets these installed and wants to meet up for a bit of photography, I currently have 255x85r16 Toyo MTs on my Xterra (some wear, but still going strong) and would be willing use them as the comparison set.

Id like to see this too. How about next to a BFG KM2?

I have run this tire on my JK unlimited. AWESOME tire, besides being very very stiff in the sidewalls and very very heavy. grip is awesome, longevity is mindblowing actually. I got over 80k out of my set. they were down to the wearbars but that's awesome for a heavier lugged tire! Recommended for a bigger rig, not something like a jeep however. too much weight and stiffness.
