There's no question about the legality of open carry. Please stop falling back on that. The question is the morality. Is it the right thing to do.

It's now been implied that I shouldn't approach someone who is open carrying because I should be afraid I'd get shot, and also implied that if I asked this question 100 years ago that I might get shot.

I think that's the implication of open carry in general. It's abrasive and borderline obscene in many cases.

Immoral? Some people think we are immoral for driving our vehicles off road into areas they fell there shouldn't be vehicles.

Interesting assumption you are making also. Because I disagree with and challenge people on their thinking, that makes me dumb.

I still see no part of "bear" which indicates carrying "openly". I have also yet to see any reasoning presented which supports open carry aside from in a few precise circumstances. There has been much research presented which indicates that it is a bad idea/poor practice.

If you choose to ignore the facts presented, without presenting your own - see above quote about intellect.

What does bearing mean to you?

the direction or position of something, or the direction of movement, relative to a fixed point. It is typically measured in degrees, usually with magnetic north as zero.

THIS... usually with a lensatic compass , at night, while on patrol. But to each his own. :)

How about what does not mean in relationship to the United States Constitution and the 2nd Amendment.

You have a Constitutional right to keep and bear arms that shall not be infringed upon. There is no limitation on how you do it according to the US Constitution. Laws have been implemented to limit this right. Some states have more laws than others.

MOguy. as in, you need to read MO supreme court decisions, guy.

MOguy, aint no, amici curiae.

The merits of his death will be no doubt argued in court. I was just commenting on the civil court matter you made. When someone gets shot, right or wrong, someone else is looking to get paid.

its just not a good analogy, as jury's always make the man pay. they fail to see its their money in the end. you need a civilian shooter getting boned.

Whatever you consider them to be, why would you confront someone carrying a deadly weapon openly, assuming it is loaded and assuming that person has had training on how to use that weapon? Given that, why would you even make those assumptions?

I wonder, who is really the childishly-desperate attention-seeker here?

I carry. Sometimes open, sometimes concealed, but never in a situation where it might be inappropriate. In the wilderness, I always consider it appropriate to carry. If you do not, more power to you.

scared people back down from authoritative confrontation. open carry in a suburban sub shop ='s fear.

oh, and man/children like that, WILL be the reason carrying at all eventually gets curtailed. walking around frightening people for looks does more long term damage than a sandy hook.

I'm a firm believer in the biggest reason people have issue with people open carrying is because 1) so few people exercise their right to do so and, 2) the media has conditioned people to think that there are 2 kinds of people carrying firearms, LEOs and bad guys. If you aren't wearing a uniform and are carrying a gun, you must be one of the bad guys, because that is almost all they ever show.

then you be wrong. people have issue with it, because guns dont kill people, people with guns kill people. and being deadly force isnt needed in the situation you and the "starer" find yourselves in, they can with statistical certainty reason the only individual that poses a threat to them at that time is YOU.

sure it is. you let childish ************** that feel the need to lord over others with deadly force, to feed their own pitiful egos, dig their own hole, then you let them jump in and fill it. lather, rinse, repeat.

what does it say about me? you cant bully me, and i know a coward when i see one.

this aint the open range, and it aint allepo. theres no external reason to open carry. the only reason is in your head, and if thats whats in your head, its a frightened dark little place.

If you can't be bullied or intimidated why do you care? I don't choose to open carry but I have no right to tell others they can't anymore then i can tell them they can't burn a flag.

A criminal is not looking for a civilian with a gun on his side, and would never noticed unless he was astute enough to really be thinking/scoping things out.

pfft. i walk in a room of 100 women, and i see the 2 hot ones instantaneously.

if you carry a guns, you will see guns. the only people that didnt know i was armed, were the ones that werent.
