Heading to the River Road Jeep Run today from Glen Carbon to Grafton, Ill. It's a beautiful drive along the Mississippi River Bluffs, with a few detours for ferry crossings, breweries, and sightseeing. We had about 600 jeeps in the convoy last year. See you on the river!

Here's my pic of the day. This is what you get when you cross a CJ7 with a JKU. The owner loved Scramblers and Gladiator's but didn't have the cash, so he built his own! He put a CJ tub on a JKU frame, engine, and drivetrain. He even fabricated the back tub. I think it's awesome.

Alright, I need some help. I have a bunch of interior layouts swirling in my head and need to pick one. One of the ideas is to have jump seats on both sides of the camper, like a dinette.

I was thinking about a couple CJ5 back seats. Can one of you with a CJ5 or CJ7 measure the back seats, please. I think they are about 36" across, but I'm not sure of the distance from front to back, including the back rest angle.

Also if anyone has a source for nice jump seat benches, post them. I found this picture, but have no idea of the source of the jump seat.

A quick search for "jump seat bench" brought up some UTV jump benches. Using one or two of those might work quite well for you.

Perhaps you might build your own removable jump-seats/storage units?

A couple of heavy duty buckets and a a couple of padded bucket lids might work well, plus give you removable storage.

Maybe a couple of 5 gallon coolers with with seat lids? They would be useful outside too. Igloo brand at Home Depot currently $28 USD each.

I found some relatively cheap new jeep seats on eBay and RecPro. Still not sure if they're too big and will leave enough foot room between them. The inside of my camper is 55" across.

I think you will need seats that are very shallow, unless you mount only one seat and sit on the same side, or use very narrow seats and offset them. ... If you do use only one seat, you might consider mounting it facing backward in the Jeep bed.

Yes, the shallowest Jeep seat I can find (Smittybilt) is 19” deep which would give me 16” between the seats. It’s workable but I want to tilt the seat backward which might not work and use too much space.

The Land Rover bench seats look great but are only about 13” deep. Bit more for kids.

I will probably build storage/bench seats as I originally planned.

It would have been cool to have OEM looking seats though.

I suggest you experiment with a couple of test "seats" in your Jeep. Adjust/rebuild as needed. Once you think you have what you want, really spend some time in your Jeep. Then make the "permanent" seats (I think you wanted them to be removable).

If you decide to tilt the seat-backs, you might want to build them to hinge on the bottom and be opened by pulling the top of the seat-back forward to allow storage behind them.

Seats that flip up for for access to storage and/or floor-space for non-sitting activities, possibly combined with "drop-leaf" seat-extensions mounted on the front of the camper seat "frames", might give you the seats you want/need.

"Gate hinges" are usually pretty tough and cheap. :)

If you use non-padded kitchen seats at home, you might not want and/or need to pad seats for your camper.

A removable camper floor, cut from a sheet of 3/4" plywood, might make a good base for removable seats, and help keep everything in place while travelling.

Thanks, I haven't looked at Toyota options yet.

Alright, I'ld like to go camping this weekend, but I'm missing a mattress. With my tall top, I can go with about any thickness. The size I need is called an RV mattress 48" x 75". I'm thinking about an 4" RV mattress. Are there cheaper/better options than below?

What do you guys think?

Is it true that memory foam gets stiff at cold temperatures?
