Google Android software and hardware: Post here

I have wanted a D2 for a while (have the original G1 running Cyanogen Froyo 2.2 ROM).

Engadget has some posts up about yet another reception problem now with the D2 (see iPhone 3G and Nexus One as examples of others). They are recommending the Incredible as "the phone" to get at this time.

Hoping they can do a firmware update and fix the antenna issues before the R2D2 Star Wars version of the D2 comes out late Sept. I want it. Tmo contract is up, finally, in November. :sombrero:

As bad as I want D2 like hardware with a keyboard, I'd sacrifice the keyboard for solid reception.

The D2 joins the Google Nexus One and HTC Evo 4G as smart phones running versions of Android 2.2. A month from now, it's likely that many models from HTC, Motorola, and Samsung will have 2.2 available.

My Droid 1 was upgraded to Android 2.2 a few days ago. So far, I really like it. Besides the long awaited Flash support, there are now soft buttons to access the phone, the web browser, and your applications page always displayed at the bottom of the screen (unless you are in an application). It's also got two more screens or pages (whatever they're called) for a total of 5 now.

How do you go about upgrading to the 2.2?

Something that can be done to the existing phone, or did you get a new unit?

Settings, About Phone, System Updates.

Some pretty nice features in this update make me pretty excited to have it downloaded.

Thanks! Mine says it's "Up To Date" right now. (DROID Moto) Just got it last March.

It has "Firmware Version 2.1 -update1"

If that makes sense:snorkel:

They stagger the update, they learned that lesson from a fiasco update awhile back for the Blackberry phones.
The updates crashed the servers.

I do not have it yet either, but probably will before the weekend is over.

Thanks for the info!

I went from a cell phone that made/recieved calls, and had a lousy .3 MP camera, to the Droid.

Sort of culture shock!:Wow1:

It was worth the few extra $$$ a month, I use this thing a lot!!

I use it to surf forums all the time, read my email, send email, and much more.
Watch YouTube vids, weather updates, and occasionally make calls.

The Droid is like a laptop to me with the ability to make calls too.

And I have used the Google Maps to have turn by turn voice directions to find places too.

So many cool apps out there for it too.

I woke up Thursday, checked my phone, and it told me it wanted to download an update. As Corey says, they will let you know when it's time.

No joy yet this morning for me.
I got my phone shortly after they came out last year.
Maybe they go by your last name :D
I was close to last the last time we got the update too.

The "Tap-A-Talk" app for forums is great! I may get the paid app, so I can reply also. So much nicer to read the forums than using the browser function.

I'll have to check the wifes phone, see if she got the update yet.:coffeedrink:

Got my 2.2 update today!:victory:

I have the phone tethered to the laptop, and am using the phones browser.

It's just as fast, maybe faster, than my high speed internet!:snorkel:

Might have to drop that also, along with my cable:Wow1:

Other things I've noticed, the camera layout is better, easier to navigate.
