This is a cross with a fish net slng over it that sits at the entrance to our town that was errected when the Government put the ban on Net Fishing in the Gulf

Tough choice Pat, both work on different levels and are really two different images. The color image has a sad but hopeful message to me where the B/W image is much more ominous to me.

A few mornings ago, I get a call from one of the local fisherman who had been out shark fishing

The call basically went like this

"Hey Pat, grab that camera of yours and meet me at the ramp! You're not gonna believe what we just pulled in!" and he hung up the phone.

I grabbed Cindy, the cameras and we drove down the street to where the fisherman load and unload their boats. (This is a different area than the public boat ramp in town and only the locals know about it)

We walked up to the boat where a group of fisherman and all the local kids had gathered to see a monster Tarpon cut in half.

This is half the fish that was on their line. They told me they were reeling in this guy, when he felt it tug really hard, then go slack. They never got to see what bit it in half, but remember that this is only half of the tarpon, and it weighed in just under 100lbs!!!:Wow1:

I couldnt get it to show the size in a photo, so I told him to hold it up for me

Once you see it next to an adult you realize how friggin' big this monster is!!

The kids were all pulling scales off of it to keep as souviners and I was amazed at how big the scales were!!

Another day in the life of the local fisherman here on the Gulf Coast.

Makes me leary of getting in the water knowing that there are sharks out there big enough to cut a Tarpon in two with one bite

Would be interesting to go back and get pictures of the same location for after, compare all the exif date/time/location and try to get everything as close as possible.

That must have been a large female shark to go after a tarpon that large. I recall watching Flip Pallot fishing for tarpon in the keys with I think Stu Apt (big salt water fly fishing guys) Flip hooked a large tarpon, fought it for a good period and finally had it boat side. Stu (I think?) was leaning over to get the hook out and revive the fish before releasing it when it gave one mighty kick and broke his nose with its tale-blood all over the boat.

I had half a yellow fin tuna taken from me offshore SC once-the front half still weighed in at 35lbs-I was able to see the shark come up snatch the tuna with a quick, surical bite and dissapear as quick as it came.

Yeah Matt, I agree. It's really good to see the town hustling and bustling with all the fisherman getting their gear together and the boats back in the water.

Resurecting an old thread with some updated Seasonal photos.

Our little Island Community hosted their annual Christmas Boat Parade last night. I'm proud to say that our little motel took 1st place with the award as the best decorated boat!!!!:wings:

I was in another friends boat that wasnt in the parade so I could have a different angle on the water to get these shots

The boats lining up to get ready to parade in front of Dock Street just as the sun was setting. Luckily for us, the weather warmed up and gave us picture perfect temps and calm seas...It was an amazing night

This was our boat that won the 1st Place trophy and bragging rights for the rest of the year...LOL Hey, it's a very small town and these kinds of bragging rights will be talked about all year long

Since we're Clam Capitol of the World, the main theme is Santa Clam who goes around handing out presents to the various boats

Since it's sponsored by the Cedar Key Aquaculture Association, this boat took the Eat More Chicken Theme and went with the slogan "Eat More Clams"

One of my favorite shots of the night. Our Fire Boat was showing off with the water cannon and with the decorated boats and the setting sun, it made for a AWESOME shot!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Everyone!

Very cool shots Pat. Not the easiest to shoot I imagine.
If you don't mind, what lens were you using? (yeah, I guess I could look at your image info, but that's no fun)

Funny the difference in photos we're taking right now Tom isnt it:sombrero:

All of these were taken with either a 5D Classic which had the 70-200 f/2.8 IS attached or the 5D MarkII which had the 16-35 f/2.8

I'm really liking the low light capabilities of the Mark II. Joash was right when he talked me into it while sitting on the rocks that night in the U.P.
