Ron i am here up north again. And this month i drove over 5.000 miles. HUMMER H1 is the best of expedition vehicle for my girls and me. I want a truck that can do it all. And i am getting better fuel economy. Than 99% of the trucks with 33 inch tires. Did i mention. Its hot as hell when u use HUMMER H1?

I havent met anybody up here who doesnt love the hummer. But if there are few of thoae haters they can kiss my A $ $ .

HUMMER H1 IS the BEST 4x4 in the world after the helicopter lol

I had an 89 H1. I ran it in Nevada for a bit. To Wide. Nice rig and tough IF you know how to drive them. If not you will learn pretty quick after snapping a few axle shafts. Dont forget to get some lockers added.

Absolutely right. The epic fail videos you see on line with struggling h1's are usually struggling inexperienced drivers who can't btm.

Btm'ing puts a lot of stress on the drivetrain, but knowing how to do it properly will get you pretty much anywhere. The '99 you had (I assume the "89 was a typo) is really the worst year for btm-able trucks. It was the 1st year for abs brakes and the high bias ratio was reduced from nearly 5:1 to less than 2:1 , making it far less effective offroad without lockers (AMG added a traction control in '99 to compensate for the suckiness, but it left much to be desired). The '98 and earlier trucks were pretty formidable out of the box in the hands of a skilled driver.

They didn't make H1s in 89. I live in Nevada and a H1 is good because of the wide open spaces.

imho they are closer to a tractor than a truck so they are not for everyone. They are pretty wide and look massive, but aren't as big as most think. Here's a picture I have posted before, it's a nice comparison of an h1 next to an h3. I was also surprised that my passat was longer! You can really see the great approach/departure angles...and the resulting bad breakover :)

A Unimog is a tractor. An H1 is not. Don't get me wrong I love hmmwvs.

I was being facetious...people have the crazy impression that it is a bling ride. It is certainly a tractor when compared to what most people think they will be like (Escalade). Only wheeled in a mog once, loved it -- it didn't seem as different from my truck as I thought it would.

The Military Hummer came out in 1985. The civilian market received them in either 1992 or 1993. They work just fine in some places in Nevada (wide open desert) they SUCK on two tracks with sage on each side of the road. I gave up buffing mine out after every single off road adventure up in the mountains (It was black to boot). They are to wide for that environment. And I lived in Nevada up until November of last year. I have installed and removed seismic stations every 40 square miles across Nevada as well as much of the rest of the Country. So yes Ive been all over Nevada. Hummers or H1s are great off road but not in every single situation. My Dodge Power Wagon (2005) was much better suited. Now I suppose your going to tell me that Dodge didnt make the Power Wagon option in 2005?????

#2 Wrong.
#3 Nevada has more Mountain ranges than all of the other States combined. Its not one big open desert as most people think.

Well I do apologize. I WAS WRONG on the year of hummer I had. It was a 1993. That was the first year they came available to the Civilian Market. It had a NON Turbo 6.2 and an open front diff. Getting old sucks.

I like your '92 better than the '99 I assumed it was. As I mentioned he early trucks are great for their simplicity. I though they all had torsen high bias diffs from the beginning (military/civy trucks to '98)?

$100k eh...maybe we should stick to Europe? I hear all the roads are wide there! Yes...some serious exploration is indeed needed. I still think a shakedown run to Prudhoe Bay is in order but the outback sounds great!
