Man! That sucks! Glad Michelle wasn't hurt......poor Fafhrd! That's not the kind of glorious battle scar one desires....

Yeah, it's really not that big of a deal. It's just going to be a nuisance to get him fixed back up. I told Michelle that it could have been a whole lot worse and reminded her of your deer strike. That was a sucky day.

We got a heavy, wet snow Friday morning. One of those snows that are so laden with water that when you make a snowball it weighs a pound. My wife usually takes the LJ on those mornings but I told her to take the truck as I was going to change oil in the Jeep. My wife leaves for work early and PennDot hadn't bothered to plow the eight or so inches of sloppy, icy mess off our backwoods roads. Temps were right at freezing so between the slush and the temps road conditions couldn't hardly have been worse for driving other than a full out ice storm. So when the tail of the truck kicked out she got it straightened back out only to have it kick out again a couple of hundred yards down the road. Wham, into a sign post. Just cosmetic damage and Michelle was fine other than being ticked off at events. I think she was mostly worried how I would take it, but as she's probably a better winter driver than 80% of the Portal members, I knew it was just one of those things that happen. When you've been driving in a area that has snow for 5 months out of the year for as long as she has, winter was bound to get her sooner or later. Nothing some paint and some parts can't fix, though the inconvenience of having my truck down for a couple of days as my work season is just ramping up will be annoying.

Ouch....glad to hear everyone was ok, but sorry to the damage to your truck.

Bummer, we were in Key West for that last hurrah storm in PA.:sombrero:

Don't get cocky...we always have one last big blast after Saint Paddy's day. :sombrero:

Hope you had a great time in the Keys, but you could have invited your ExPo buds along.

That's to bad

Sorry to hear about the Tundra. Maybe if BigAl had invited you to Key West none of this would have happened. Who's fault is this really?

Well thank you.

To tell you the truth I'm always a little surprised this thread gets as many views as it does. After all it wanders around abit from old scifi novels to my buds and me acting goofy and then there's some Tundra stuff thrown in for good measure. But it's been fun.

Well as it was raining and I couldn't work, I took some time today to install a front hitch mount on Fafhrd.

It's a Hidden Hitch brand that I bought of a fellow ExPo member a few weeks back. Barely used with mounting hardware still sealed in the bag. The install didn't take that long though I did have to trim the flange off both sides of the radiator skid to allow it to fit cleanly within the mounts side plates. It will make getting the front bolts in and out on that skid a bit harder when it comes time to change the oil. It's main purpose is to give Fafhrd a good recovery point as the front factory hook is hard to access and is marginal in design. One of these days a winch and mounting plate will occupy the receiver. I just don't want to mess around with a custom bumper or have a winch mounted all the time. I like the stealth "work truck" look and don't want to add any extra weight other than when it's needed. In addition I want to be able to have the option of mounting a winch either fore or aft depending on what recovery situation I find myself in.

Now to get him cleaned up so I can drop him off at the bodyshop this coming Friday.

Yeah, that tucked up in there very well. The Hidden Hitches seem to sit higher than others I've seen. I'm still thinking about flipping mine over to the top of the frame.....maybe if I get some free time later this summer.
