Mark, I've read through this entire thread and I have to say I'm a little disappointed in your sense of priorities.

Where the heck is the rear window rack for the claymore?

X3 again! = 4.7L Sequoia, 4.7L Tundra, 4.7L 4Runner. I am quite fond of the 2UZFE platform, too. We have three 2003's in our livery. I was impressed with the performance I got out of mine and my wife's until I bought the 4Runner for my daughter. That 4.7 in the 4Runner 4WD is a rocket ship! On the light 4Runner 4WD, it accelerates like a sportscar. I bet there are not many production domestic vehicles, save the Mustangs and Corvettes, etc., that can beat that little white 4Runner off the line. .

I was thinking this would be the perfect motorvation for a Tacoma or a T100, or a Camry...

You mean like an overhead console type scabbard so the sword can be drawn as you are exiting the vehicle to lay waste on some marauding horde? We may have a bit more work to do while you're here, Mark!

Overhead is better than window rack any day! Preserves the element of surprise...is stealth claymore an oxymoron?

Just for the record I prefer a war sword; lighter, faster and more fluid than the claymore. espeically when fore hafting the blade. Oooo.. I also like duel wielding falchions and I'm wicked with a sparth axe. Jonathan; You, me and James need to talk blades some time... Anacharonists are few and far between these days.

No, I think it's better in plain view. That way you only have to deal with the really crazed as most troublemakers should give a crazed ridgerunner with 40" of observable steel in his truck a wide berth. Thus conflict is avoided and sunshine and lollipops reign.

Got the rims and tires yesterday. Rims are Eagle Alloy Series 185: 16x8; 4" backspacing. Tires are Dean Mud Terrian SXTs in 285/75/16. Here's a teaser shot of things to come...

it'll rub

LOL - at first glance I thought, it'll rub ; )

Didn't realize they were just leaning against the opening...

Great looking combo!

Looking forward to hearing your impressions on wear, traction and noise with the new Deans.

New tires and wheels always look sharp. :wings:

Redline, you have serious tire issues:)

Redlines "problem" is a benefit to us all. In an internet of :cow: opinions we can all count on him for a concise info. And we don't have to spend our own fundage on the research. Though I do wonder if he hides tire brochures under his mattress, so the wife doesn't catch him reading them

The Haggis multi-tool build is coming along quickly!

I like the multi-tool tag! Next is getting the time to throw the lift on. I'll probably have to wait until I'm down in VA at Jim's place for a log rot job I've got to do. Looking forward to eating his food as we slap on that lift. Catfish cakes please! The weekends are booked this month and right now I'm trying to finish a bunch of small jobs that got left undone when the weather turned after last Thanksgiving. Then I've got a large log home job that will have me hopping for a couple of months. Everybodys calling wondering when I'm goin' to get started on their homes.

CB installed

The weathers turned around nicely so I'm hard at it again making peoples log homes purdy. The Tundra's now a mobile tool chest and is doing quite well. Gas mileage is averaging 17.5 mpg, though we had some snow last monday and I had to put it in 4WD . Gas mileage for that dropped to 16 mpg. One question...can anybody tell me why there is a tape deck in an '06 vehicle? I sold my entire tape collection back in '98 or there abouts. Who still has tapes? I wish it had an I-pod interface instead.

I did get around to installing my old CB. This will be the third truck for it and it still works fine, I think I got it back in '97. I used a CB mount for a T-100 to hold the 3' Firestick and then ran a Firering coaxial with the banjo ring fitting to the CB. I mounted it in the pocket of the lower dash just to the right of the steering column. To make it tuck up nicely and to sit flush with the edge of the dash I drilled a 1" hole in the lower dash valance and brought the cable and the power feeds through it. This allowed me to push the connections, once attached to the CB, back through the hole and get a nice position for the CB. I also made a spacer narrower in width than the CB mount so that the CB mount would sit flat as it was to wide to go all the way up to the top of the recess and sit square against the dash. The power leads went through the speedometer grommet in the floor and power was connected directly to the battery while the ground was hooked to the factory location on the inner driver's side fender. When powered up it was as quiet as could be, with no interference. I hooked up my SWR meter and as luck would have it, it was reading as good as gold.

Here's a shot of the CB location...

It's easy to reach and see, it's out of the way of my long legs and Michelle's shorter ones and it's hard to see from the outside. The mike cord even reaches back to the rear passengers so the kids can gab with their cousins when we're riding a trail with a certain black Tundra AC.

Next should be the lift as I'll be down at Jame's place next weekend...it will be good to be rid of the old man tires and get a set of meats on there. The little donuts on it now offend my ridgerunner sensibilities.

tape player

I love the tape player. I use mine with the adapter to play the Sat Radio or sound from the DVD if the girls are getting on my nerves!
I agree, I wish I had an Aux input, but the tape player is a fine replacement...

Glad to hear you are working again and out of the house... We are leaving Wed for our furlough/spring break trip. Don't know where yet, depends on teh weather...

Lift is going on!

Well I'm down at Jimbo's this weekend. I finished the small log home job in this area I had to do Friday, so James and I got to work putting the lift on the Tundra Saturday. Everything went along nicely once we found a shop open to compress the springs for us. My compressors were not heavy duty enough for the job so we started calling around. Seems like Virginianites don't like to work Saturdays so the quest began to find someone open and willing. We finally found a Midas shop open and they were kind enough to compress the springs for us. They only charged $20 to do it and at that time I was desperate enough to pay 5 times that just so I could get back to PA faster. It was darn hot down here, in the 90s, and the work was hard and tedious....

The lift (Bilstiens 5100s and rear 1.5" AAls), tires and wheels look great. The ride is just as good as stock and it motors down the road real nice. Me happy! Picture to follow..

Alright...time for some pictures.

On the left is the Tundra looking all stock and "yuppie-ish"..........the right is the aftermath taken on one of the few dirt roads around King George.

The truck ride and handles just like it wasn't modified. Gas mileage on the trip up was 16.5 mpg even with the 1000 lbs of gear and tools I had in the back. And now left hand lane drivers on the freeways get out of it's way instead of ingnoring it.
