How to build an 80 on a budget

Ah, that makes sense. I was so ticked off when I broke mine on the trail that I ripped the whole thing out and threw it... Then I fixed my brake line... Then I had to find the swaybar so I wouldn't litter... LOL

Lol lol... Tread lightly right?

Im starting to get pissed with man a fre. I called yesterday at 9 am to order lines. 24 hours later they hadn't processed the order so I called back. They said it would process today but I still haven't heard anything from them.

I've been reading your thread for the last couple days now, since I'm seriously contemplating selling my jeep and getting an 80...and I'm certainly one that lives by a rather tight budget, so seeing this thread gives me some hope, should IT happen!

Very nice setup you have on your 80!

Geez...nothing like a little more peer pressure...like I'm already not feeling enough of that from AdventureDuo! Funny story behind them getting their new 80...I was honestly browsing through craigslist, and was actually looking at the exact Cruiser that Yosh ended up driving home. It was really bizarre to see it sitting in their driveway last night!

Funds are exceptionally tight in my household...so unless there's someone out there either willing to buy my WJ at the same moment someone wants to sell me an 80 (and hopefully - but doubtfully put some extra $ in my pocket to spend on the 80)...getting one might be awfully difficult.

Well, it's nothing to rush. As long as you are in a vehicle that will get you places you want to go, that's all that matters. I've been blessed to have a guaranteed income these last 4 years and live about a mile from work. Ill probably have to get a cheap motorcycle to commute with when we move to Texas.

That being said, I would have to be very desperate to sell my cruiser.

I've thought about leaving it off... But I don't really like the feeling of it on the highway. Not sure what to do at this point.

EDIT: ok just pulled it off. Hopefully I don't crash and die.
I lol'd when I read the time stamps on you first post and then your edit. Nice.:D

Oh I have a guaranteed income and the same steady job at my work for the last almost 9 years...it just doesn't pay all that well. I am very fortunate to have something I can not only drive to and from work, and drive my kids, but take out camping & exploring as well. I'm certainly not going to rush into anything, but at the same time...every time there's a Land Cruiser out on the road...it's catching my eye each and every time. I've had my Jeep for the last 5+ years and it's certainly been a trooper...even up until now. I'm looking for something with a bit more room as well as something that's already an incredible platform to build upon for the kind of travel I enjoy (I love the trails and exploration, but not anything like rock-crawling or anything extreme). I know the 80's are very highly sought after as well as highly recommended. Hopefully the opportunity will present itself (preferrably sooner than later!) and I can get myself into one!

Ha, vice grips with a zip tie on them under the Land Cruiser, now that looks very familiar... :D I've only had to do that twice so far.

Good stuff.

Well I finally got my extended braided lines in. I had a newly made friend of mine do the install.

He called me up near the end when he was trying to bleed the brakes and said that he couldn't get any fluid to come out of the passenger side rear nipple. Luckily for me he was dedicated to clearing the passage and bled the entire system. He showed me the fluid that he drained out and it was chunky dark mud. Who knows the last time that was done, if ever!

In regards to re gearing. I can't really make up my mind (but that's not whats stopping me) if I want to go 5.29's or 4.88's. if I were staying where I am with my very short commute I would do 5.29's no questions asked. But since we are moving to Texas and I have no idea what my commute will be like or how much freeway driving I will be doing I just can't commit to such tall gears. Right now I will just have to wait and see what the drive is going to be like. If I could have it my way I would do 5.29's with marlins t-case reduction gears. I'd also throw in an ARB while the 3rd was out. But at that point I would be into gears for what I paid for my cruiser.... Oh yeah, I also want a 1HD-T while its down... Or a 2UZ. And a campteq top....

You might want to consider changing the title of this thread...:sombrero:
