Is the Ranger the Hilux we've been wanting?

So I don’t get this infatuation with Manual gear selection. ...
Makes sense on some vehicles though.
I had two MINI Coopers with autos and paddle shifters and one with a manual trans. The autos would run Deal's Gap much faster than the manual.

And my wife's car now ---- I can get about 10% better fuel economy on podunk backroads manually shifting the autobox than letting it shift. Seeing the hills, anticipating gear needs, that sort of thing.
I drive her car and I get 44 mpg. She drives and gets 35 (Mrs Leadfoot).

I don't know what it says about other owners, I'm saying we somehow dealt with tailgates that were not dampened for, like, ever and it was never an issue. I

Try opening the tailgate on a new truck, while holding a child in your arms. You'll definitely appreciate it lowering slowly...lol.

Love it, I also REALLY like those hooks on the sides of the beds, those would come in handy. I still wanna retrofit one of these to a modern truck:

Those hooks were awesome!

When my girlfriend’s son was about 5, I turned my back while working in the garage for a minute and he tried to close the open tailgate on my 06 Dodge. He wasn’t able to quite latch it and it slammed back down with some force missing him by a hair. Luckily he wasn’t hurt, Mom gave us both a tongue lashing.

I think damped tailgates are useful.

Even more fun opening a dampened tailgate with say a 31 class battery or 5 gallon bucket of oil in your hand. Might as well have a cheesy elevator song playing as it makes its way open. Heck no, free hand pushes past the damping to get rid of the battery/oil.

Forget the damping, make it open with the remote as you walk up to it.

My daughter has done the same thing... It can definitely end badly.

I really wonder if the Aus rangier/Hiluxs are really more truck that the US counterparts. I'm pretty sure they have lots of paved roads and I'm willing to bet most people aren't using their trucks off-road. Aside from a diesel option, the US ranger seems like a good option.

I didn't know our truck had a dampened tailgate for months. I didn't even know it was a thing. Now that I've showed it to everyone I'm indifferent to it.
