The Gearsafe does have a 3rd brake light provision, we just did not add it because the J8 has none. Since the Gearsafe is technically not yet on the market, there are still some provisions, such as you mentioned, that are still in the works. FYI, I will be mounting one to the AT MJ with a one off tire carrier, so I guess anything is possible. BTW, the Hanson link was dead.

Awesome. I like it when the product is one step ahead of me. I had looked at there website and didn't see any pics with the brake light on it.
Fixed the link to the Hanson tire carrier.

Love that Gearsafe. Great idea.

Those seat brackets. The FMVSS requirement for seatbelt brackets is 3000 lbs tension. Those look like they should probably work. But is there any plan to put it through some kind of regulatory testing so they are "certified"? Just curious.

The Gearsafe lock is weatherproof but the unit itself is not waterproof. It does have a drain hole in the bottom though
Stay tuned for above wheel well storage ;)

Wouldn't it be easier to flip the tire on the carrier and do something like the one for the G-Wagen? Here's a link to it

I like the G-Wagen version myself. But the limitation to this approach is that depending on the wheel it might not lend itself to being mounted to the carrier face in. A wheel with a nice flat face makes it easy, but a wheel with a more concave face, as is typical of many wheels, would not mount in this direction without damaging the wheel or requiring very specific modifications to the carrier. The Little Boys Offroad product allows for a more universal fitment regardless of the wheel design.

Factory fire extinguisher - a nice touch (love the cyrillic too)
J8_Intro_2.jpg

This isn't cyrillic, which is an Eastern European alphabet (i.e. Russian). It's Arabic. The large title block at the top says literally "Bafaria", which is Arabic for the name of the manufacturer of the fire extinguisher in Egypt, "Bavaria."

Not a bad idea one we get into production.

We like that it is not necessary to remove the Gearsafe to access the tire and that the opening for the Gearsafe is not visible when the door is closed, characteristics that the G-wagen concept does not share.

J8 battery replacement

The J8 battery configuration from the factory is a pair of 95 AH batteries linked to a 24 VDC inverter to supply power to mil spec radios & other equipment. The two batteries are necessary to supply the 50 amp current draw that the glow plugs pull upon starting the VM 2.8 TD engine. They are placed in the most space robbing position imaginable. We have decided to remove and replace them with a 8D valve regulated sealed AGM from East Penn Deka. The battery is a whopping 245 AH and produces 1450 CCA. More than enough for starting duties for the J8 and enough left over, when coupled with a low voltage disconnect, to supply power for planned accessories such as a fridge, auxiliary interior lighting and a compressor.

You will notice that the J8 has a single layer for the rear floor whereas the civilian JK has a recessed storage compartment and a well for the factory jack. We will use the area below the floor that would normally be the recessed storage area to suspend the 158 lb 8D battery. This will make the CG even lower than the mil spec. For civilian JKs, we will offer a custom water bladder for the storage area instead. More on that later.

awesome thread!

is the J8 like the military version of the JK!

Well, it looks like a JK, sharing the body shell/interior and basic dimensions, but otherwise it is a completely different vehicle from the frame to suspension, drivetrain, engine, etc., super heavy duty parts substituted. It is built in Egypt and limited to overseas sales for use as a light military support vehicle and commercial applications.

Here is the official information and specifications on the J8:
http://www.jgms.com/

Thanks for the link! They all look awesome. I think I'll take the patrol version. :) Jeep has got to bring this to the U.S.! It adds a whole new dimension to the JK. The Rubicon's are nicely outfitted, but not really built for sustained heavy duty conditions and loads, like the J8. What do these cost new in Egypt? I assume these aren't EPA approved? How difficult would it be to bring one over here, do you think? Hurdles involved?

Man, There was someone left that hasn't heard of the J8!?! WOW! (just pokin' fun at ya David)
Just hope he doesn't see the Nukiser or some of the other stuff floating around lest he get his hopes up only to have Feep dash them on the rocks!

I've heard of them before through those brief press release blurbs, etc. But never seen comprehensive info on them.

Pretty impressive. They should have these down at the dealer right now.
