Sven,

I believe those are the factory 17" spare tire rims for a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Should be part number 52124455AB

thanks for the info!
here the wheel comes in silver :-(
i like black better... they don't say it but i guess it's a 17/7" rim - the price would be interesting too...

i keep looking - thanks for all of your input!

Great thread.....lots of good ideas and opinions....

This was my favorite.

I loved how the Jeep handled with nothing on the roof.

I think most overland/expedition type builds are putting way too much stuff on the roof.

I know it will be hard for a lot of people, but I try very hard to follow what I call the 'beltline' rule. When setting up and packing a vehicle I try very hard to NOT have anything above the top of the bed or tub rails. Also, all heavy items go as far forward as possible. Its amazing the difference in performance this makes.

I had a moment of weakness the other day and contacted AEV to check on the J8 program status.

The AEV J8 program is still moving forward but Chrysler is dragging its feet a bit which is slowing everything down. I don't think the J8 is going to be for everyone, but I think in the USA it will be the cream of the crop for expedition vehicles.

Scott, Are the mounts for the roof rack going to be a production item or were they a one time shot? Were they made by a fab shop that wants to make some more? I've gone through this thread several times and don't see a reply. Thanks.

Sorry for the delayed reply. The mounts are a one-off, built by the Jeep Skunkworks team.

However, I just tested a Hemi JK built by AEV, and it had a prototype rack installed, which also used a roll bar mounted rack. It was sweet. It might be worth giving them a call.

Again, sorry for the delayed updates, as I have been traveling pretty heavy the last month. More details soon!
