just saw your post on Full Size pics thread- nice project trailer!! I am in the midst of one too, and wanted to mention a cover idea. I looked and found a trifold aluminum cover with 1k# capacity on top!! It is for a fullsize truck bed, but we just added/welded some clips inside the bed of the 101, and it works/fits great, and 100% watertight with full access when needed. Also allows opening the tailgate without touching the cover. Spend time looking as they are >$1k new, but I found a scratched one new for $250- cheaper than vinyl!! Of course a vinyl version could be used as well, but like yourself I am contemplating RTT later...

I wanted several gas and water containers for the trailer.
The taller 5 allon Jerry cans although nice seened too tall for my needs.
I came across this website that had New style cans from 2.5 to 7.5 Gallon capacity.
They came in Polished Stainless, Red, Green, and Yellow.

.

Can you post the website you found these cans at please.
Thank you in advance

Propane tanks and lights for the build

I just purchased some more items for the build and they arrived today.
a 5 pound propane tank and four lights to light up the camp kitchen and inside the trailer.

I am going to mount the propane tank on the front wall of the trailer and need a good design for a mount.
I looked at several mounts on the internet and although nice they are too expensive for me.
I need a clamp with an 8" diameter center.

Show me some ideas.

I've read the entire thread because I've just purchased 4 of these trailers (1 for me, 1 for a friend, and 2 to sell).

You had 235/85r16 tires put on? Did I read that right? Is that the same size tire as your truck?

I would like to drive to Alaska someday and I think it makes the most sense to have the same size tires as your truck on your trailer, for me that would be 255/85r16's.

Although, all 4 trailers I've purchased have brand new 235/85r16's!

My parents pop up has 2 steel straps that hold it down through the handle holes. I towed the pop up 800+ miles to WI and back to IN it didn’t budge. If you are interested I can get pictures and measurements.

Yes 235-85-16 hankooks I have the same tires on the truck, I like the tall thin tires for highway travel.
and I the trailer has the same 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern as the truck so I can use the trucks spare.

Post some pictures of your tie down, They may work.
I have one figured out but would like other ideas.

I didn't need a trailer but I bought one just to play with. Keep it or sell it it's great fun to customize something, especially since you can't really wreck the resale value like you can a car!

I imagine all the trailer tires are pretty close to new. Sell four and buy some 255's! It might end up costing you $100. All my mods are being partially funded by unneeded parts from my 101's. Some of the stuff is in pretty high demand...

Yeah that's a standard rig. An RV store can help you with that and it's the best system out there.

I've read through your thread several times and really like what you've done. Thanks in part to your help with my thread about comparative trailer weights, I now have an M101A2. It's a bit large for my rig but it tows beautifully around town, at interstate speeds, and in wet and dry conditions. I'll rely heavily on this build to assist me in putting mine on a diet and for parts sourcing. Thanks.

When you removed the braking system, did it adversely affect the performance of the trailer? Granted, our vehicles are very different, but any change you may have noticed would certainly be amplified with mine (my rig is a 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2 door). Thanks in advance and keep up the great work.

Heat Miser:
Thank You for the complement.
When I purchased my 101A2 from Ohio the surge system was not functioning.
The brake lines were cut and the brake shoes were down to the rivets.
All the brake parts were junk!

I never got to compair between surge brakes and no surge brakes.
The trailer weighed 1350 pounds with the brake system and racks. it is now 1080 pounds without the parts.
It pulls great wet dry fast and slow. and follows right behind my truck.

Another piece of the build

After checking all of the local awning companies and trailer cover makers in the local Pittsburgh area I checked online for a company that would build a cover to my specs and not break the bank.

Local shops wanted up to $400.00 to make the vinyl cover.
I paid $500.00 for the trailer and it is steel! I don't think those prices are reasonable.

I emailed MyTarp.com and with the size and style I wanted and thier rep replied back with a description and price. It is 10 oz black vinyl 71" x 101" x 4" sides. gromets every 12" along the sides and reinforced corners. Glued and sewn.
They called it a machine cover, I call it just right.

I placed the order and within a week it arrived.
It was less than $100.00 and it works well.
I found a 100' spool of nylon red/black rope that I will use to lash it down.

I still need to make 5 arched bows out of aluminum at work to keep the water running off. I will keep all posted on th progress.
