Kitchen Kit/Chuck Box

I haven't had an issue, yet. There is occasionally some steam build up but that quickly dissipates. If I'm going to be coming something that will cause a lot of grease splatter, I'll move the stove down to the lower level or pull out the table so I'm away from the vehicle all together.

Thanks for the input. I've see the AT stove slide used so I think it'll be far enough out to not interfere but I'll report back after I bolt it in next week.

Well spent my money on a mr. Heater instead so I spent $12 and updated my camp kitchen table.

What a great thread! SO many good ideas in here.

I recently stumbled upon this on Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1282510083/the-ultimate-grab-and-go-camp-kitchen-the-camp-cad

It just so happens that the people making them are an hour drive away from me! Honestly though, lots of good ideas here and I love the easy setup/teardown. It's plastic too so I would suspect it to be fairly light. I emailed the owners for more info....

Interesting. I'm relatively close as well.

I just came across this kickstarter project where the developers have come up with what looks like possibly the best chuck box I have ever seen. I was so impressed with their "camp caddy" that I signed up for the initial run. They have built prototypes, but the hitch is if they don't get enough people signed up the production run won't happen.

Take a look and see what you think.

My only interest in this product is in getting enough people to buy one so that it get's built and end up with one.

my honest thought ? plastic parts won't last I would think for the price I would get a river box again something that is used commercially will hold up better
for me seems like quick setup is not so quick if you just want to do lunch quickly and grab something
the plastic wheels ? the top ridges makes it 3 surfaces rather than one long one and the side kick outs don't look to big
the idea is OK I guess but the height when I tried something lower like that was a pain in the back getting things in and out that often prefer a bit more height myself
also found for our family way better to have the prep area and the cooking apart so the wife can prep I can cook the kids can get silver ware plates out if they want the everything in one box for me was less efficient setup because of that
sorry but you asked :) ahahahah but if others like it hope its nice if ya get one :) I just think for the coin there are better options

for car camping picnic once in a while might hold up ? could be wrong might be insane tough just my thoughts :)

All of these are so impressive! Wish I had the tools be able to build my ideas.

For now this is what I am using. It is a military medical chest that I sourced from a local member. On they very heavy side but works great for my needs. Plus the sides fold out into tables!

Our system is a bit simpler than most of the boxes shown here. I usually prep/cook food on the tailgate of the Tacoma or on a picnic table. The box is a Centrex Plastics "Commander" 27 gal tote. This box was the only one that I found that would fit our Primus Profile Duo stove/grill. The rest of the box was built around that. It holds the stove and griddle, 2x Propane Bottles, select pieces of a Stansport Nesting pot set with mixing bowls, plates, and bowls inside, a 10" GSI Pinnacle frying pan, spices, and cooking utensils / flatware. There is some empty space that can be used for dry/canned food storage on short trips or to hold the "on-deck" evening meal on longer trips.

The dividers and tray are made from 1/4" plywood glued and nailed together then covered in several coats of polyurethane. The dividers are not permanently attached to the box, with the box loaded they stay in place fine, and they could be easily switched to another box if this one cracked or broke. So far it has survived a two week road trip and several weekend trips and looks none the worse for the miles.
