Kitchen Kit/Chuck Box

^ Yes I like that one too! Right now I have everything in my action packer. Might end up doing something like that over the weekend. Thanks for the idea!

Our system is a bit simpler than most of the boxes shown here. I usually prep/cook food on the tailgate of the Tacoma or on a picnic table. The box is a Centrex Plastics "Commander" 27 gal tote. This box was the only one that I found that would fit our Primus Profile Duo stove/grill. The rest of the box was built around that. It holds the stove and griddle, 2x Propane Bottles, select pieces of a Stansport Nesting pot set with mixing bowls, plates, and bowls inside, a 10" GSI Pinnacle frying pan, spices, and cooking utensils / flatware. There is some empty space that can be used for dry/canned food storage on short trips or to hold the "on-deck" evening meal on longer trips.

The dividers and tray are made from 1/4" plywood glued and nailed together then covered in several coats of polyurethane. The dividers are not permanently attached to the box, with the box loaded they stay in place fine, and they could be easily switched to another box if this one cracked or broke. So far it has survived a two week road trip and several weekend trips and looks none the worse for the miles.

That's brilliant. Even more so that you can switch the dividers when the plastic tote breaks (which they often do.) Unlike most "chuck boxes" yours is light, inexpensive and easy to store.

Perso, even if a lot of people like them, I do not like the taper shape ans also the lack of square corners. Harder to be efficient when packing in the tote and also loosing space in the vehicule because of the same "round" corners!

I prefer the sportsman's trunk from Plano at walmart.

But it is just imo.

While I'm impressed with the clever ideas on here for a chuck box, I'm wondering if some of you aren't just trying to reinvent the wheel just so you can reinvent the wheel here. Then again, my kit is only meant to feed 1 or 2 people. 3 if you stretch it and don't mind sharing.
My kit doesn't even have a box. Just a simple gear bag to hold all my kit. Right now, its only set up for 1 person really, but I can easily fit anything else I may need from my kitchen if I need to.
Contents include: 1 carry bag, 1 biolite stove, 1 el-cheapo camp pot kit from wal-mart with bowls, lids and mixing/serving utinsils, 1 stainless steel pan w/ tray, 1 cutting board, 1 butcher knife, 1 cleaver/camp knife (my own design and make), wash clothes, flashlight keychain w/ can opener, 1 set of cutlery (soon to be 2), 1 box strike anywhere matches (green yes, but they work), one tin with packed cotton balls and storm matches, 4 sticks of quick light stick (mini fire logs), 2 dozen paper rolls for biolite stove, magnesium rod and a selection of spices.

I know its not a sophisticated as most, but it gets the job done. I know for a fact that stove works great with those paper rolls. They're made from rolling up pages torn from an old phone book and held closed with masking tape. The small rolls will last about 30 minutes while the largest ones can last over an hour. They're intended to be used when natural fuel is not available.
I will admit, I could use some more eating utensils, but other than that, I can make anything else I need on site. This kit is meant to be thrown into the back of my bronco for overnight camping. I have a small cooler for food storage as well as water sources/storage on my camping rig already. Because its small, its easy to just toss in the truck. I put it together with the intent of cooking right off my tailgate, so no table or support structure needed.
As for cleaning, its a matter of being creative. Boil water in the pot and use that for cleaning. Just make sure everything is rinsed out and dried before being put away.

This is what I would consider a bare minimalist approach to a chuck kit.

Hello Bronco

This is like another tread around here.

I've only been lurking here, but I think this is an other tread were you come, show what you have so people can see, get ideas and evaluate what would work for them. So far, I've been like you on this. But I know I want to come up with something for me that will suit my need. But I want to go the way were I open a box, that I can keep in the back of the jeep, or put on a table that I do not have to empty every thing out of the back to get that last little thing that I was missing to prepare or cook my meal. So an organized box that can be open, used w/o being totaly empty would be something nice for me. But even if I think that some of the chuckbox here are awsome, they are not what I'm looking for. Si yes, I might have to adapt the Wheel for me.

But no good or bad answer here. Just what fits your needs and is good for you.

Here's a few pictures of my camp box that I recently built, made from 1/2" baltic birch with a little cherry trim added. Fits into the back of my trailer.

Holds the normal array of camping supplies, griddle has it's own slot under the stove.

Everything packed up and ready to go.......leaving tomorrow for a shakedown!

It is largely aluminum. The only steel parts are in the frame of the slide out sections (and the wheels and bearings). These support 1000 lbs each at full extension so they needed to be pretty beefy. The other pieces are all aluminum.

Those are some very nice setups above.

I use two Sterilite 2102 boxes that fit perfectly into my Cabela's kitchen.

I know this post is over six years old now, but I saw this table in a couple of threads. Idk what the original mark up is on these, but I scored on brand new a few days ago for $45.
