Lemker Overland Introduction

Greetings! We wanted to formally make an introduction. We’ve just released a technical article about our panels used in our campers and wanted to present it to this community. We’ll be putting together subsequent articles about more aspects of the construction in the future.

To introduce ourselves, we’ve been a small company in mobile composites for the last 50 years, and over the last 4 years, have developed a composite panel and assembly system. Our panels and systems to date are used to build mobile laboratories, restroom trailers, RVs, and truck campers. We continue to expand to other markets.

All of our panels are made in-house at our Texas facility. They are constructed of a structural foam core (extruded recycled PET) vacuum bonded to high strength woven roving FRP. We currently produce panels up to 8’ x 26’ from which we CNC cut individual components (walls, roof, floor, etc) . Our in-house CAD/CAM capabilities allow us to easily tailor each camper to the individual customer's size/specs in most cases. This can include primary dimensions, window size/locations, roof vents, etc.

Our assembly system consists of an inner and outer extrusion on either side of a rabbeted panel joint resulting in a thermal transfer free, high strength corner. Because of its two-piece design, it can be pressed onto the panel, as opposed to slid onto the panel, resulting in a strong, leak resistant bond.

For the past 50 years, our focus has been on commercial mobile structures. For the overland community, we have teamed up with build partners that are experts at outfitting to suit the overland market.

Looks like you assemble the shells in Texas and sell direct to people doing DIY buildouts. You also have build partners who I assume are finishing out your shells as an upfitter.

I live in NW Washington and Shipping is costly. If there is a warranty issue, do you cover shipping back to your facility for repair? Would you send someone out? If there is a significant buildout and a warranty shell failure, how is the cost of the buildout compensated?

Thanks. Are you saying that Lemker also covers the structural failure $10,000 build out coverage if the shell is assembled by a build partner?

Yes, that's correct, If the failure is due to manufacturing or material deficiencies.

We train our builder partners on our exact method for assembly. If there were a failure due to their assembly practices, we would address that with the builder.

I really like your product and considering one of your shells. I looked at the information you provided and have questions about your construction. Given that the inner and outer extrusions are aluminum, is there any potential issue with the bound to the foam due to the materials having different thermal characteristics and their relative expansion/contraction over time (any testing or recommended operating range for temperature)? Related to this, I have seen some offering with the extrusions and/or foam painted (or wrapped for the foam) in black colors. These certainly look good but I was wondering if there is any additional concern when going for a dark color option with the glue holding up across changes in temperature or other thermal issues? In other words, is this something you recommend for a long term application?
