I said it before and i will say it again, a decent and well done headlight upgrade is better then ANY halogen "aux" light out there.

I had the Toshiba HIR's in my 80 (highs and lows) and after running numerous tests against different aux lights (lightforces, hellas, KC) the HIR's on "High" we just as bright as some and brighter then some, also had better (more natural) beam patterns.

I agree with above ^^^^

I went the upgrade wiring harness and housing with 100W bulbs for highs and lows. I ditched all my other lights after I did it. Works great. I pull a full 28.8V at the lights and nothing I have tried will out shine them.

E code Bosh and Cibie housings.

Did you say your HID kit was the same as Bruce's? Are those small ballasts up on your rack? If so, would you mind posting a pick or two of how they're mounted? Thanks.

There ya go, its the same thing that I did. I opted to drill the extra hole, but either way its easy enough to do, and the difference is worth EVERY penny.

I will never own another halogen driving/auxiliary light, the HID's are that much better. Now with these conversion kits its actually affordable too!

Yep, I have the exact same kit. I made little water proof/shock proof boxes and mounted them on the rack behind the lights. Here is a picture

here are the lights with the HID kits not installed yet.

This brings into light another question. If I HID converted my LightForce 240's could I not use a hi/low system in my 240's. They would of course have to be then mechanical type of hi low otherwise they would just be low HID and hi halogen or xenon. I wonder if this could be done. I low beam would be pretty cool on the awesomely bright lights to have a low beam. Though as often as I use my LightFroces maybe HID wouldn't be beneficial.

ARe you talking about the kind that has the shield that moves back and forth or the one that just changes the angle of the bulb? I would not put one with the shield in as it would mess put a shadow in your beam even when it was in the High position (I can actually see a slight shadow just from the electrode that runs on the outside of the bulb, so a shield would really throw a shadow). Also, you have to remember that headlights are shaped for high and low beams, if you move the focal point of the light off center in the LF's you would probably get a terrible looking light spread, but it might be all right. If you want to do a high/low, you would be better off researching the ballast/bulbs that can actually be boosted from 35watts to 50watts with a switch. ONe of the first guys to do this in a LF 240 handheld, used this system although I believe he had problems with the bulbs not lasting or something like that or maybe it was the batteries, I don't remember. I think I have the link in my LF HID thread.

Edit: Here's the link to the SL 240 HID retro where he used those ballast with boost that I was talking about.

Ironsmiles, I really dig that front bumper! I'll have to keep that in mind when I finally get around to doing my front bumper.:punk03:

Ty very much! I really like it but be careful with TNT, I had a really bad experience with them. I would just advise letting them know upfront EXACTLY what your expectations are on service, delivery, and what not.. If they can't meet it, I would definately suggest working with someone else. :REOutArchery02:

Hey

Has anyone compared the Hella 500 to the Hella 500FF? I'm looking for four lights on the roof rack of my suburban. Would 2 pairs of 530's be better? Other brand? I don't want to spend a fotune and have them knocked of with a tree branch. I have a pair of KC Daylighters 100W up front now. Also where can you get the Hella matador work light's? I didn't see them in my 4wheel or Quadratec catalogs.

Rallylights.com carries almost everything Hella produces. The regular 500s are nothing special. The 500FF looks a lot like the IPF 968. The 968s are great with 100 watt bulbs.
