Oh golly! I can't resist temptation any longer. You guys know I love my Dormobile and love to show her off. I've tried not to bore you with too many pictures, but sometimes, like when anyone asks for pictures, I just can't resist.

Except for the engine, gearbox and steering box she is all Land Rover. I haven't paid a lot of attention to the year or model Series or Defender the Land Rover parts came from. I just wanted to build the best truck I could.

Drive train:

1970 Ford Mustang 302 (5L) V8 with 1991 Mustang fuel injection.

Borg Warner T-18 gearbox, Series LR transfercase with Ashcroft high ratio kit installed (70:1 low range first, 65 MPH @ 2650 RPM)

Custom Great Basin front and rear propshafts with long slip joints and high angle U joints

Rear axle: Salisbury (Dana 60 built under contract) with ARB, 4.7:1 R&P, hardened 24 spline rear axles & drive flanges

Front axle: range Rover Classic carrier with 24 spline TruTrac, the stronger 4.75:1 R&P, SeriesTrac 24 spline front axles

Front disc brakes, power steering, Kodiak heater, heated windscreens, 3 fuel tanks for a 42 US gallon capacity, built in 15 gallon stainless steel water tank, built in horizontal mount 5 gallon propane tank, Quickair compressor with built in air tank

2 sinks with running water, dual batteries & shore power connection that includes automatic battery recharging, porta pottie, 2 burner stove with broiler, chest refrigerator, lots of storage, built in cot style fold up bunk, 7'8" of head space in back with top erected. There's no place like home

I have owned, cared for and learned to love her during our thirty year relationship, during which she has shown me places I would have otherwise have never seen, had many adventures, taught me how to be mechanical, self reliant and competent. She changed my life and pointed it into another direction.

Tweak - gorgeous Series I. The only way that images gets better is if you put your Weimy in the back. Mark

1982 Land Rover Lightweight Series III

Here's my '82 Land Rover Lightweight Series III. Still has the 1990 Desert Storm paint, but that war ended before it actually shipped from the UK to Iraq so it never saw combat as far as I know.

Mods include OME shocks and steering dampener, disc brake conversion upfront, k&n air filter being converted now to a Mantec snorkel, two rear seats, Optima red top, magnecor ignition wires, kenlow fan, defender side mirrors, fairey overdrive, nrp stainless exhaust system, filtermag magnetic oil filter magnet, and hella vision headlamps and black magic lights.

Pictured as I bought it:

I have a 1966 SIIA 109" diesel Station Wagon and a 1967 SIIA 88" pickup

The wagon is sitting in the back yard with a broken synchronizer in the transmission and the 88's frame is in my mothers garage where it got shuffled to during mid-restoration. I hope to get both of them back on the road next year after I finish the Porsche 356 restoration.

My 1961 SII Carawagon (not originally a carawagon) and Alaskajosh's 1970 genuine Carawagon on a trip around Alaska last September. Both trucks are heavily modified from original. Also a pic of my dads 1957 S1 107 station wagon awaiting a full restoration.
