Well, I did it! Although our "conversation" had me doubting it a little. I am glad I did - glad the way it turned out. You are quite right - that is a LOT of light -- it is almost "weaponized" lighting!! I went with two Rigid "pods" on either end for airing up/down or chaining on/off...although I may re-aim those more for getting in and out and to light up a little more for the driver. You have an amazing build there -- hope you don't mind that I am "borrowing" an idea or four from you?!?! Now I need some time off from work to get this thing in the hills at night!!!

Thanks for sharing and keep posting those pics!!!

Looks awesome! Yeah they do produce a big amount of light. The pods looks cool as well. An idea might be to mount them further back and point them forward/outboards to get a better spread/softer light. That's what I did with mine.

Got my Level8 Guardian wheels. And I finally got a spare tire :)

They look pretty sweet!

Great build thread that covers mods of all types! Gets better each time I come back. Some really good ideas here and I like that you aren't afraid to cut up your truck! I'm still trying to get there.

Tire Question - Need to pick up some tires to replace my Duratracs. How are the Hankooks holding up for you and how are they for a mix of trail and road use? See you've been on a good number of group rides with other trucks - do the Hankooks perform well in comparison to the tires other folks are running offroad? Also see that you've done quite a bit of road tripping on the Hankooks.

Love to get out and explore, but my truck is also my DD, and I use it for work travel on the highway. Don't mind road noise, but need wet traction and resistance to hydroplaning at speed on the interstate.

And regarding hydro planing. That was something I was concerned with as well when I got them. But they have been very good. When we drove to Maine we passed thru a hurricane with some pretty severe weather and the car was very steady with no hydro planing what so ever. So they seem to perform very well compared to what one would think since they pretty much lack any sips for water to flow thru.

Do you have 5 of those now? They look great!
I was reading on my phone and missed the part about the spare… Does the spare fit in the stock location or do you need to get started on the rear bumper to mount it?

The old wheels and tires and new one is still in the car. So I haven't had a chance to try it. But will probably get started on the rear bumper shorty. I just need to source some parts that I need then it's show time again.

I have been working to hard and laying on the couch to much lately. Time to get back in to the garage soon.

Well I just got word that my traveling will be starting up again soon so we need to get some trips in this winter. I am headed to Thailand and Vietnam in March and will probably have little free time after that for a while.

Nice wheels! I can't wait to see what you do on the rear bumper. I just got my gx470 and am planning my build with a lot of inspiration from yours since I also have a fabricating background. I was curious if anyone with a gx470 has upgraded the reverse lights with LED or another method in the stock location? They are weak IMHO and I'm contemplating some rigid led work lights inside the housing. Cheers and second the query on where spare fits.

How many miles did you get on your Duratracs? I just sold my Lexus with 45k miles on the 285 BFG AT's and they still have another 20k if not more to go. Still rode great and very little road noise. Wore very even. Highly recommend then for double duty as a daily driver.

Duratracs have held up well. Have around 40,000 on them now and still have a little life left. I haven't had any problems out of mine, but the sidewalls are a bit soft, had a friend lose a sidewall to a rock, and I've read about other sidewall damage. May still go with another set of Duratracs, but just checking out other options. I've had BFG ATs on other trucks and liked them - plus the sidewalls are tougher.

Looking at the Duratracs, ST Maxx and Hankook MTs. Two aggressive ATs and a more mild MT. All seem to be good Expo tires.

I have a 2006 tundra and I got over 60k in duratracs, 285/75r16 and am on my second set with over 40k. IMO the best all year tire as their snow and ice ability exceeds the competition as I live in canada
