Nice move Scott. Cutting ties with sponsorship will alleviate questions about alliances influencing reviews. It’s best to eliminate any element that has the potential to compromise impartiality.

Lightforce is not a sponsor, and has never been a sponsor.

Sorry; they have you and your truck in a two page advertisement... ....looked like sponsorship to the casual observer...

Why not try a pair of Hella FF1000's, and tint them the way Hilldweller did his. I'm using them with 100W bulbs, and never had a problem with glare. Though obviously, you have to turn them off when there is oncoming traffic. I wouldn't even think of using them when there is oncoming traffic. Hella 500FF's might work for that, and the beam pattern is a little flatter. Even still... driving lights are not intended to be used with oncoming traffic.
Good idea; I have a set of 500s but they're hard to take apart to tint so I didn't tint them...

As far as brightness they will destroy the lesser brands,
You can't be serious...

I think it’s hard for a magazine to be completely honest when they compare products at times. Especially when the products they review are from the advertisers they are trying to get for the magazine. However, I have been very impressed with Overland Journal and they have been objective from what I have read over the last year. I will be renewing my subscription this week.

As for the light review, I hope fog lights are compared to fog lights, driving lights with driving lights, flood lights. A brief installation guide would also be helpful.

Thanks!

I have a set on my Pajero with a set of wide filters but the only snow I've seen is in pictures.

They do add a bit of width (I have OEM HID low which remain on with the OEM halogen high) but not much. I use them on the highway regularly though obviously not if there's anything within half a mile of me as they come on with my highbeam (required by law) and my highbeam has a fair bit of reach. I'm only using them as I had them from a previous vehicle and have been waiting for the Genesis to be released but it seems that's never going to happen.

If you can get them cheap they might be worth a look depending on your stock lighting but don't expect miracles from them IMO.

As for bulb availability they're a standard Philips type bulb though I can't recall the models. If you goog lightforce philips bulb you should be able to find the info. Maybe Philips bulbs aren't common in the US?

I don't know why people are so hung up on the bulb issue... It is a $4 bulb that you MAY have to mail order. If a light does go out it is not the end of the world (unlike other mechanical failures). My stock lighting is decent, but nothing compared to yours, and as for the miracles part thats what the Hellas are for :D.

I am looking for a small (size and power wise) that has better road manners than the Hellas and can fill the hole in foul weather. I appreciate the feedback and opinions and I have to think if these will fit the bill.

None of the driving lights can be left on with oncoming traffic. I have mine wired in with the high beams so I can dim them quickly.

The yellow filters may help. I noticed the ice road truckers run Lightforces.

And I've never seen the CPF guys talk more trash about lightforce than any other brand. I like Hella's but if money was no object I'd go with the Cibies. I have Lightforce, Hella, Warn, IPF on my vehicles so I'm not a serious brand guy, other than I'd never touch PIAA crap.

We tested only driving lights and even compared HID/Halogen/LED technologies.

We abuse products and report results without impunity. No one is safe from Graham (see SteriPen), Chris (see Warn) or any other of our editors. We are essentially full on advertising (we have a cap of 30%), so if they drop an ad just because we reported the truth, then their absence will be an even better service to our most important customer - our readers.

I think you guys will be impressed with the lighting test (and its results). If it was possible for Graham to outdo the filter test, he did it with the lighting test.

It is at the printer now, and should hit your mailboxes in the next couple weeks.

I subscribed to Overland Journal about 10 minutes ago. Will I receive the issue with the lighting test?
Thanks,

Yes I can. I have personally compared them to Hella, KC and PIAA, and they are brighter/better in that order, followed by Lightforce which far surpasses them all.

It seems like every comparison turns into a pissing match ...

As for ice road truckers... From what I have seen in northern BC (ie Ft Nelson), lightforce is the most popular brand of the north.

I can't wait to see the light test!

I wish this light could have been included:

rallye.jpg

Pattern - 40' Width - Length 2500' (1/2 mi.) I had a pair that I bought from K-mart back in the day. I wish I never sold them with an old truck. They were awesome.

Current price is $220.00 for a pair at: http://boschlights.com/. Not bad for a light 9" in size.

As for something fun, I would love to see LED combined with a projector style light. I think you could then get a Fog light from LED's.

As for the Light Force Lights being used on ICE ROAD Trucker, the might have some use in severe snow because the beam is so focused they might punch through the snow while minimizing reflections. On Ice Road Truckers, they seem to have the lights aimed towards the shoulders looking for the reflector posts.
