M416 trailer build my brother and I

I picked up my tent this week, it's not mounted yet because we are going to rework the basket on the top. That means that it is going to take another trip to GA to my brother's house (home shop) to get reworked. Anyway I could not leave the tent in the box without testing it out, so here are a few pictures of it set up on the floor of my garage.

Of course my little supervisor had to check it out.

It's easy to get in and out of at this level.

We completely removed the original hitch assembly. The 48" square tube was welded to the underside of the first cross-member then cross strapped under in two spots and over in three spots. As far as the alignment goes just measure from the front corners to the very end of the tube, ensure both measurements are the same. Also when you install the axel measure to the same point on the tube back to a known point on the axel, both side should again be the same. I've pulled these type trailers in the military but this trailer tracks way better.

Another question. I'm getting ready to do mine. What thickness (1/8, 3/16) of metal did you use to cross strap the receiver tube? I'm starting to amass everything before i get started.

We went with 3/16 steel. I welded it on all edges under and over.

What a great build. Can you please post up detailed pics of what you used to mount the cables too and how it is attached to the receiver tube? Also, how did you run the wiring? Did you cut a hole in the receiver tube and run it back inside of it? Did you run the wires to the box for future electronics or switch panel/battery in the box? Thanks. :)

As far as the wires go there is no wiring in the box in the front. When I was thinking it out I had no intentions to have a power source in the tongue box now that might change depending on my needs. The wire is run through the receiver, we drilled a hole in the receiver and ran it through it to allow it to plug into the tow vehicle. I'll post up some close up pictures of it later this week. The cables are hooked onto a carabiner that you can get from Home Depot or Lowes, it screws closed. They were welded to the receiver. I'll post a few close ups of them also.

She's going back to GA to my brother's house to rework the top rack to accomadate the RTT. We boxed the tent up and strapped it down for the trip.

Your trailer turned out great! Will there be a second build or do you share with your brother?
Mark, there is a second build planned, my brother really doesn't have a use for a trailer but he really just enjoys building them. So we are going to build another for fun.
