About 270 miles on my 19 gallon tank. Running 2005 SWB Rubicon on 37's with 5.13 gears, a few hundred pounds of gear, skid plates, armor, sometimes towing my M416. The mileage is about stock, the fuel light comes on at about 210 miles give or take a few. My Scanguage II is very helpful at helping me pick a good MPG speed and setting the cruise control.

If I'm really nice to it, I get 17mpg out of my '03 TJ (3.5" lift, 33's, 4.10's, couple hundred pounds of extra steel), but you have to be nice to it. Typically, I get about 210 miles out of it before the low fuel light comes on...at that point it will take between 13 and 13.5 gallons to fill it up. If I push the freeway speeds beyond 70mph....the mileage drops pretty quick.

That's about what I get in my 2006 LJ Rubicon which is kind of heavy with a Garvin roof rack & tire carrier/bumper, tuffy drawer, garvin interior rack, 31s on steel wheels, a Body Armor front bumper, and a ton more crap.

That's one thing I love about my Cherokee XJ, on a 3" lift and 31" with 4.10 gears, I typically get on the highway 20-22mpg. (especially if I stay under 70) and around town about 17mpg. Cherokee is about 1000#'s lighter yet uses the same engine as the pre-JK models. :jumping:

YJ, TJ, or LJ? they all get something between bad and worse :26_34_3: my LJ generally starts asking for gas between 165mi in town, and if I'm lucky on the freeway, can manage 200. stock w/ soft-top.

edit: I have a heavy foot around town! and a 6sp

Get a Liberty CRD and 22-28 mpg with a 20 gal tank about 400 miles.

almost bought one of those over the rubi. glad i didn't! You figure on a trip that's 2000mi with getting there and exploring. Say an avg. of 15 mpg including the freeway section: cost, $439 @ $3.30/gallon.

Diesel: say an avg on/off road of 20 mpg. Cost: $330, assuming you can find diesel at $3.30/gallon.

Same here with the 2002 TJ with the 3-spd auto. Hardtop, winch, and maybe 75lbs of gear in the vehicle. Hook up the trailer, add on a couple yards of mulch or a load of logs, and it goes to the single digits.

Gas mileage (or the lack there of) is near and dear to my heart.

99TJ, sitting on 35's w/6" of lift, 4:56 gears, armored all the way around (on, under & over) roof rack, winch, etc. (My point is a lot of weight...)

Trail Conditions, 4Lo, fully loaded (with roof rack loaded) I get about 10.5 mpg
Highway conditions, same load, max speed 65mph, I get about 11.5 mpg
Planning range on a full tank: 180 mile (with a small 20+/- miles in reserve)
(*I have a fuel gauge issue due to a bad sending unit which makes me sensitive to my planning range.)

I always carry 5 gallons in aux fuel on-board.

'98 TJ Sahara with the 4 liter, on 31s:

Easy cruising down dirt roads 20-22 mpg
Mix in some driving in 4-lo and it drops to 17-18, which is the overall average over several thousand miles (yes, I keep meticulous records).

OK, I am sure of it, I do not like you! Well, it is not you in particular, it is the gas mileage you get!!!
