I still have one available- just haven't used it or opened it...

I must lend another perspective from the private sector, and as a family member of a few Special Forces and retired military personnel. I have no issue in buying what it takes to support our troops, period. What I have a problem with is the wasted government spending. Case being buying $9k blood coolers, then selling them off still brand new for $500. These things will last indefinately with the only real maintenance being a new battery periodicly. So now the math: assume only 100 being sold off at $8,500 loss per= <$850k>, folks that is a MILLION DOLLARS/100 oopses. Then, we buy more next year to repeat the process. Just plain piss poor management- with our tax dollars. Dollars that could have been spent staying in the same budget for our military personnel- for ANYTHING that would HELP them. That is my rant- just wasted dollars for absolutely no benefit. Dollars that could have been spent on training(like maybe the folks doing the planning??) or protective gear, or ???? Then, deductively, we must only guess the total annually wasted for like items- so very sad for our servicemen....

One more?

It is very sad but the military is a business and has to spend the money to get more for next years budget. we do this up in Canada all the time. end of the fiscal year or close to the military uses exercises as an excuse to blow out all the expendibles that are around from ammunition to rations to materials and fuel to empty the accounts. this way for next years budget they can prove they used all of last years budget to be able to get the same or more of a budget for the up coming year or say look we ended the year and did not have enough to finish the year. if their budget is surplus the next year they will get less.

Limited life span...

There is a secondary aspect that get over looked about the way the govt. sepnds our money on this stuff. Its a hard pill to swallow and walks a very thin line between wise and waste.
As much as we joke about things built by the lowest bidder/govt. junk...etc..the reality is a great deal of the equipment, tools, parts, and stuff is really high quality. Often the military specs stuff out to survive some extreme and hostile enviornments so the equipment, while maybe not stricktly the "top of the line"...is usually high quality and high price.
The thing about it is technology changes fast. And the govt often specs stuff designed to last "X" number of years..so it is over built and expensive. But when technology by passes that and creates a newer/better/ easier/lighter...blah blah blah whatever...well, then that "X" number of years may go out the window. There are a few good (and some bad) reasons to "upgrade to the newer stuff.
Serviciability is one thing. If a unit, lets say this fridge, has to be serviced...is it cost effective? Depends. If there is a plethoria of parts nearby and a trained tech...or the military has trained techs for that particular part...well then it will likely get replaced. But lets say this fridge is needed daily. It goes down due to a normal part failure. The unit NEEDS the fridge...but the closest repair is halfway around the world and will take weeks (if not months or years!) to fix it. Well, that unit should have a back up to fill in for it but what about the back up for the back up? See what I mean? Now for non-essential stuff like say, an office chair..who cares. But what if the object is one that sustains life? Is a tool that does a very specific job?
Now mind you I am not condoning how the govt. spends and wastes so VERY much of our tax dollars. There are efforts made to reign that in from the inside but it only goes so far. Does the govt need to wake up and think a little harder...yup. Does it make it wrong for them to keep their military outfitted with the best...no. Nor does it make it wrong for them to try and "resell" the outdated equipment once it is no longer in service.Thats just my opinion of course.

Would you be willing to hold it until Christmas time or should I arrange to have it shipped? I'm in Iraq right now but will be coming through that way (Colorado to Atlanta) arund the holidays...At least that would save a little $$?? Let me know please...

Wow...8 pages for fridges, only on ExPo!

Interesting twists that got almost tennis match like at one point. I'm glad it all worked out in the end. After reading all 8 pages I wish I had the need for one of these but I just don't at the moment. Man, I've got to start cruising the GSI auction site more often.
