If anyone's interested, this is an ex ADF ambulance. Note that there are no large side doors. These trucks were really well fitted with extras. Not too much consideration given to weight though. Great winch set up. The owner has already removed all the srtetcher racks he estimates 400kg of unnecessary steel work!!

Thats one neat looking truck. What sort of tyres are they?

Hi Ben,

Sorry, didn't take much notice of the tyres. They were on the truck when we got it in to do the suspension work. Obviously 16's or maybe 17's

......BTW we now won't do suspension work on modified trucks unless they can show an engineers certificate , state transport mod plate or SSM plate for the existing mods....ie: single wheel conversion.

in the last pic you can see they are definitely BFG KM2's, as john said either 16 or 17", they look like 17s to me.

Camped next to us last weekend at Inskip Point.

The big pantec used to carry a Jimny in the back but he upgraded to a 75series which he tows on an Aframe......I think he told me that he's been on the road for 7 years in his truck....... not bad for something that started as n old removal truck for only $3K. Lots of custom hydraulics...even has a hydraulic Saturn TV antenna.

The NPS on the right was an old Ergon Energy truck so came with the really good hydraulic APE rear winch setup....then the owner ran some pulleys under and setup a fairlead on the front bar....pretty cool . The slide-on comes off for the extreme fishing trips with the boys and camping gear gets thrown on the tray.

I think it's probably one of the winches expo member, Mickldo would have originally set up cause they built all those trucks where he works.....they even run a cooler and if you've ever seen them, you'll notice they had a capstan on either side of the winch.....Ergon would use the capstans for pulling power cables. Sometimes they would winch for hours on end , hence the cooler I guess. They even setup the new trucks that have DPD'S with a lockout so that the regeneration doesn't activate while the PTO is engaged. IIRC these trucks ran the 10,000lb unit .

BTW APE winches are all wormdrive and they rate their winches as a vertical lift so not sure how that compares to conventional ratings. What is the conversion anyway?

We were a few minutes late pulling out of our friends' house yesterday because I forgot my sunglasses and had to run back into the house to retrieve them.

That delay enabled us to spot this Fuso FG 140 custom camper build coming down the hill into the neighborhood. We chased him down and followed him to this cul de sac, where he was meeting a guy to improve the 12VDC electrical system.

He said he was aware of ExPo, but I didn't get the impression that he had used it as a resource or posted a build thread.

He seemed vaguely aware of who Steph and I were, so he may have seen our build or travel site.

We invited him to OvEx, so hopefully he'll be there later this year so others can see this build.

He was busy with the electrical guy and I didn't want to intrude on their conversation, so I didn't see the interior or learn much about the build, e.g. start date, total time, etc.

His name is Dean and he just lost his wife to cancer.

His goal is to take the Fuso down to Baja full time and surf a lot as he puts his life back together.

Isn't that the 2007 that was up for sale in Monterey Bay just recently? It was advertised for sale here on expedition portal along with their local craigslist.
