Moby1 owners?

I was pretty much drooling all over the model at OVEX14. I am really hoping to get one of these eventually.

Bombsight: Fantastic Looking trailer. Always admired the Moby's.
Question: On a rainy outing, what keeps water from running back down the rear hatch and dripping into the kitchen area?

I'd love to seem them morph this design into a rear lift that has a 45 slant when closed and opens into a horizontal overhead cover for the kitchen.

Bombsight, saw your's being built when I visited Ashley last month. I recognize the custom roof rack. My XTR is due in April and I can't wait! Hope you enjoy it.

The Moby is sweet. I was able to see one local to me last spring. I wasn't able to afford one with the kind of features I wanted. I ended up ordering a SoCal teardrop instead.

Whether you get a Moby, SoCal, or other maker, there's some impressive teardrops out these days.

For you guys that have received your trailers, what was the actual lead time to receive your trailer?

In September 2012, we looked at Moby's trailers, but ultimately decided on AT's offering. (mainly due to lead time concerns)

Those of you transitioning to a teardrop are going to love the fast and easy setup, and break down, of the teardrop. No more worries of folding up wet canvas onto bedding or having to wait for the canvas to dry before breaking camp. Wife also loves the "hard side" comfort of the teardrop. Since we got the teardrop, I haven't received that sharp spousal elbow in the ribs, while sleeping, followed by "what was that noise?". :)

Dendy, you are correct. In rainy weather you have to worry about rain running back into the galley. While in Ouray, last fall, I was cooking breakfast in a light drizzle. I was staying dry, but didn't realize that water was running into the galley's top shelf. It was no major disaster, and was cleaned up quickly, but made me realize that I had to be careful leaving the galley door open, even in a light drizzle.

I ended up buying a SoCal over a Moby. How long did you end up waiting on yours?

I was impressed with SoCal's set up with their scheduling. I ordered in mid spring and they said the next build date available was end of September and would be done in October. They ran behind like 2 or 3 weeks and I got the trailer beginning of November. Personally for me it wasn't too big of an issue but they're pretty good on being on schedule. Though I had to wait till September for the build to start I was just impressed they had build slots they fill.

Agreed. The resurgence of the teardrop is a great story. I am partial to the benroy design of the Moby1, but the SoCal Krawler is also impressive.

I also notice that SoCal is looking to set up a regional manufacturing network in order to increase distribution. I wonder if Moby1 may consider this in time in order to meet the demand?

I ordered mine on 11-16-2012, took delivery 3-20-2013. My teardrop was purchased through Adventure Trailers. (SoCal's coach mounted on AT's frame and suspension setup.) I had been running a Chaser for the last 2.5 years and had developed a high confidence level in AT's suspension setup. I was having some separation anxiety with the thought of having to ditch AT's suspension system for another. :) A high quality SoCal coach, mounted on the tested and proven AT frame and suspension, in my mind, was the best of both worlds. The teardrops's maiden voyage was to Overland Expo and the North Rim in May, 2013. I believe we covered about 3500 miles that trip. The new trailer setup did not fail to impress...the teardrop made the 60 mile washboard run into Tuweep, at about 40-45mph, and only broke 2 eggs. :victory:

My SoCal coach was actually assembled by Jon Buschko of Canyon Country Teardrops, out of Phoenix. (one of SoCal's regional manufactures) Jon was great to work with. He received the CNC'd parts from SoCal and kept me informed, via photos and narratives, of the coach's progress. In the end, it took them about a month longer than originally quoted, but I had taken that possibility into account when placing the order.

At times I miss sleeping in a RTT, but overall we are glad we made the switch.

Merry Christmas....Mark
