Any truck built to haul 4000 gallons of water is going to have muy stiff suspension, big heavy suspension/drivetrain components, weigh a lot and suck lots of fuel. Probably not the best choice of a rig to drive around the world.

The smaller crew cab Freightliners and Internationals would be pretty sweet camper rigs, love to have that FL80 CC in my driveway. Any truck built to haul 4000 gallons of water is going to have muy stiff suspension, big heavy suspension/drivetrain components, weigh a lot and suck lots of fuel. Probably not the best choice of a rig to drive around the world.

You could mitigate the stiff suspension by customizing the spring packs (if it's leaf spring) to your fully loaded weight, but I don't know if you could mitigate the fuel economy much. I don't know enough about these trucks and engines to even speculate on that aspect.

Agreed on the FL80 CC. The cab looks trashed, but you could swap a different (better condition) cab or interior into it.

The more I poke around, the more interesting stuff I find out there.

We haven't lived in CA since 2007, so I haven't kept up with the new registration requirements.

Since these would be titled as an RV (once the camper box is installed), can you still title and register them in TX, SD or MT or other "RV Full Timer" friendly states?

Actually if an older (pre 2007) diesel vehicle is registered as an RV, you can register it even in California without a DPF retrofit!!! Even if it is a 2 stroke 6V92 for example. They of course did that to avoid pi--ing off a bunch of RV owner-voters.
