Bill Caid has made a great go-anywhere camper out of his 1017. I've seen it in person and it is awesome.

" dont forget that right now these are not much money to buy but that when it was new it was $___,000 to buy and the parts and maintenance will reflect the original price, thats why its for sale now."

That has always stuck with me, I have no clue as to how much it costs to keep one of these going

agreed

One day I was shopping for a tractor at an auction in Wisconsin. Along the row was an old Oliver. One of the older farmers there saw me slobbering over it and commented, "I think all the good has been gotten out of it."

That comment stuck with me.

It's one thing to take on something as a hobby or restoration project. It's another to take something on as a vehicle you need to rely on, especially when it's within the bounds of a fixed (or reasonable) budget.

Another link related to importing vehicles to the U.S.

This link relates to bringing in vehicles that are old enough to bypass the ICI process:

https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/de...le/related/1/session/L2F2LzEvc2lkL0ZWUEVBUC1r

Excerpts:

  • If the vehicle is at least 21 years old, there are no EPA compliance requirements upon importation.
  • If the vehicle is 25 years old or more, it does not have to comply with the DOT's Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) to be imported permanently.

The age of the vehicle is determined by subtracting the calendar year of manufacture from the calendar year of importation.

As of 2012, those cutoff years are:
21 years: 1991
25 years: 1987

Lynn,

Thanks for the listing.

BTW, we should hook up, I'm in your area.

Yeah, I've been following your adventures for years, and somewhere along the line I figured out that you are 'local.'

Right now I only exist online, but if I ever materialize as a real overlander, or you start a new build based on one of these vehicles, I think we should definetly meet... :)
