Jerry, you asked if I was on the road again (thanks Willie), yes most of May. Don’t know if you follow my posts but here’s my short version of travel plans: Rimrocker to Moab, Cruise Moab, and Rimrocker (backwards) + Kokopelli back to Moab. Take it easy while slowly heading west to meet up with another group near Bishop, CA. Then spend a couple of weeks exploring the Owens Valley.
Looks like your current trajectory of NW we might cross paths again. Hope so as I would like to meet you and your pups. Relax and share some travel stories.

Ace.....gotcha.....I'm just bouncing around but trying to drive north.....sometimes successfully and sometimes not.....
Furbucket.....exactly ! That head tilt ! And honestly I was wondering the same thing later that day. We have unfinished business here.....

Now with plans to meet a friend in Las Vegas in a few days I was back on the interstate driving south. I decided to spend a night about 15 miles northwest of St. George, Utah and hike up Red Mountain (4,779'). The views here were magnificent but the hike pretty much sucked.....
We left the camper after checking the weather forecast which said 10 % chance of rain. That 10 % turned into rain, hail, thunder and lightning. It's the last one (lightning) that frightens me most when out hiking exposed to the elements.....
That first bolt of lightning, after a few hours of hiking, was enough to make me return to the camper immediately.....we were drenched but at least we survived.....
The following day we continued driving south and our next stop would be at Arrow Canyon in southeast Nevada. Arrow Canyon is an extraordinary place in my opinion and it's definitely one to add to your list of places to check out.....
I think I hit this place at the exact right time of year as the flowers leading into the canyon were in full bloom and it was just so incredibly beautiful.....
The road to the trailhead was quite rough so we camped about half way in and added a few extra miles to our hike.....
I found myself stopping every hundred feet or so and snapping a picture.....
Our progress was slow but of course we could care less.....
In addition to the incredible show of flowers there were quite a few songbirds which just made this place all the more special.....
As we were entering the canyon a hawk swooped down from not more than 50 feet away and snatched up a lizard and flew overhead.....so amazing this place was ! After maybe a mile and a half of hiking we reached the mouth of the canyon.....

I found this canyon by utilizing my All Trails ap. and the one thing I noticed about this place was that very few people visit this canyon.....as I recall there were only 5 reviews. Once arriving here I began to do a bit more research and found that this canyon was known for petroglyphs and fossils so of course I was on the lookout the entire time......
Fortunately, in several ways, I only saw one other party of people here and they told me where the best (hidden) spot was for petroglyphs.....
And I'm showing you just a sampling of what I saw.....
Unfortunately most of the petroglyphs that were located in the main canyon had been desecrated. Again and again I'm so often saddened to see what we do to our treasures..... I wonder how Bob would feel if he returned to the canyon to see his handiwork on the stone wall next to the ancient petroglyphs.....

Mccaf.....that's funny.....seriously.....
The canyon walls towered above us.....maybe 200 to 300 hundred feet high.....
The floor of the canyon was covered in a lush green grass for the last mile or so of the canyon hike.....
The trail ended for us when we came to this massive flood control wall (probably thirty feet high) that was built by the BLM.....
Two posts back I mentioned another party that I'd met in the canyon and this party consisted of three rock climbers. I spent an afternoon hanging out with these guys and it brought back memories of my younger days. They wanted me to climb with them but those days have long past.....now it's time for me to be content in watching others.....as difficult as that may be.....
One climber was a local from Las Vegas, Nevada.....he struggled on this 5.12a route.....and you can't blame him cause that's a really difficult climb.....
Another climber was visiting from Bend, Oregon.....this guy climbed that 5.11b route and showed incredible skills.....
And the third climber was also a visitor.....from Guadalajara, Mexico.....I never saw him on the wall.....

ITTOG.....sorry about that.....not sure what I was thinking when I made that post. Those are ratings relative to difficulty.
Beginner: 5.2 to 5.9
Intermediate: 5.10a to 5.11d
Advanced: 5.12a to 5.13d
Pro: 5.14a to 5.15c
I had a friend to pick up at the airport but I was honestly having a hard time leaving Arrow Canyon. The flight came in late in the evening so we spent our entire last day in the canyon before arriving late that evening in Las Vegas.....
A heat wave had moved in that day and what a horrible nights sleep it was. With temperatures expected to hit 98 degrees the next day we were on the road early headed back to the north and to higher ground. As luck would have it we found the cooler temperatures near Cedar City, Utah which is also where Spring Creek Canyon is located.....
I also loved this canyon and I had left still curious as to what lay ahead of that twin waterfall so this would be my opportunity to see what lay beyond. I'm not sure now how many times I did this hike but it's amazing how much more you notice each time you enter the canyon.....
The moss on the damp rocks with the sun shining down on it was stunning.....
This time I didn't let the twin falls stop our progress and we climbed that thing and moved further into the canyon.....which led us to more and more waterfalls as the canyon walls narrowed.....
Unfortunately that sun shining down on us would soon disappear and with a 20 % chance of rain the skies opened up and was soon followed by thunder echoing between the canyon walls.....
One place you don't want to be during a storm is far back in a canyon (especially with the snow melt) so we hauled ass out of that canyon for the relative safety and warmth of the truck camper. We would spend two more nights here before moving on to whatever would be next.....
Beginner: 5.2 to 5.9
Intermediate: 5.10a to 5.11d
Advanced: 5.12a to 5.13d
Pro: 5.14a to 5.15c
