My Journey

The 168 Quaking Aspen that I've transplanted over the past several years are doing remarkably well, and land that was once horse pasture, is now becoming a small forest.....this spring I was able (just barely.....think heart surgery) to plant 200 Norway Spruce seedlings (16 to 24 inches in height) and install an above ground sprinkler system (no....I should not have done this.....think heart surgery) and today I still the pay the price for my bad choices.....

What did you do to yourself, how bad did you hurt yourself? Absolutely beautiful pictures. I can almost hear the mountains calling to me

"OK, so here's the deal.....I had planned on getting my hip repaired in March but prior to getting that surgery done, the surgeon required me to get some tests done. One of the tests revealed that I was born with a defective heart valve, which was failing, & it was determined at that time that I was in "critical condition" (funny thing here.....all the days before this diagnosis, I had been hauling barn boards & 8" round fence posts on my shoulder through a foot of snow for a quarter of a mile as well as shoveling my 700' long driveway.....the cardiologist about fell out of his chair when I told him that). In April I had heart surgery & the day after the surgery, the heart surgeon told me that I probably had 2 more days of life left in me had I not been operated on..."

The ranch looks terrific Jerry. In an obviously backhanded way, you have had the opportunity to enjoy the unfolding of Spring this year due to your medical condition. Also may have been able to support your late neighbor and his family during their period of loss. Most all clouds have a silver lining of some sort. Ours certainly have in recent months.

All the best,

Foy

Regarding recovery time.....it all depends. I was a total knucklehead after my surgery and elected not to go cardio rehab. And I paid a price for that. At four weeks after surgery, I basically had regressed. Now I'm listening, going to rehab. & I'm finally feeling better.

I'm not sure when I'll load the camper.....just this morning, I actually got clearance to go on short camping trips so.....

Several days ago we took a short road trip to West Yellowstone, Montana and this is what we saw.....

Along the way we took several detours and headed up into the National Forest (last year we often gathered stone here).....

The spring rains have come often this year and the rivers are running strong.....

We spotted Elk while stopped at this pull off.....

Everything is so beautiful right now.....I seem to have a heightened love for nature these days.....

Further up the highway we spotted a lone Elk along a mountain.....

We are always captivated by these amazing animals.....

Our second detour of the day was into bear country.....

20230610_151110_copy_1200x560.jpg

Years ago I came here to climb a mountain with my oldest son.....after two Grizzly encounters along the trail, we decided to bag that climb.....what a day that was.....

The drive into bear country was outstanding.....

Eventually we returned to the highway and continued our drive further south.....

Bridger.....that's what we named her.....the newest addition to our pack.....

20230610_163045_copy_1200x560.jpg

I first saw her on Petfinder several weeks ago and she immediately captured my heart.....truly was love at first sight.....

20230610_163049_copy_1200x560.jpg

Her owners of eight and one half years had dropped her off at the shelter in March after she had peed in the house several times.....they just couldn't have that. It turned out that she had a urinary tract infection which was cured with medication.....apparently the owners didn't want her back.....

20230610_182752_copy_1200x560.jpg

Now Bridger is a part of our pack.....and we all love her dearly.....so that's why we drove to West Yellowstone, Montana on that beautiful spring day.....

Bridger.....totally focused on the bison.....

One day when Bridger crosses the Rainbow Bridge, I sure do hope she will have memories of a better life lived in Montana, and memories of life on the road....and fond memories of her new best friends.....
